hum .. i know this one isnt my fault .. i think .. although i wish it was ..
occasionaly .. when i pull the slide back on my p99QA in .40 sw and cock it , when i go to decock it with the decock button, the botton travels all the way down and bottoms out, but i cant hear nor feel the striker decock .. so i try this with NOTHING in the barrel and i attempt to decock the striker and it just doesnt work .. so i wonder if it is decocked ... so i dry fire it ... and SURE ENOUGH >> ITS NOT DECOCKED .. NOW .. if this happened to me with a round in the chamber, i might shoot myself one day by trusting the decocker !!! ..

YO P99 .... you ever have this problem ??... anyone else ???.. hummmmm ....

PS .. please state if yours is a QA or the one with the mile long pull ...

I have no solution for your problem, you might call Earl's Repair.
Look them up at http://www.waltherusa.net/
:D
Now, as to the above quote. NEVER trust ANYTHING mechanical.
As long as you follow the gun safety rules, you will not shoot yourself. Don't point the pistol at any part of your anatomy, Do not put your finger near the trigger unless you want to hear a loud BANG!. Relying on something mechanical to keep you from shooting yourself......well.....it aint too bright.

I've got the same gun. QA in .40

When I press down on the decocker, it always clicks and is decocked.

That being said, I really don't use it alot.

Mine's not a QA, it's a standard one in 9mm. The decocker has worked fine. It's my only gun, so I do carry it and end up using the decocker fairly regularly.

Uzi,

No, I've never had this problem. It should make a very audible click when you decock it. You said this happens occasionally. Does this mean that it has worked properly before?

You might try taking the striker out and cleaning the striker chamber really good. Be careful when you remove the striker. Keep your thumb or finger on the decock button, otherwise it will go flying off when you remove the striker.

I own a couple of P99's but not the QA, and I'm confused by this thread. The QA is Double Action Only, so why is anything but pulling the trigger activating the striker? Can't you see visually from the rear of the slide if the striker is active or not? The way others have posted in this thread, it appears that racking the slide activates the striker and the QA is in Single Action mode. Is it DAO or not? .........Dan in GA

I have my QA in 9mm for slightly over a year, never have any problems with the decocker, no matter there is a round in the chamber, or snap cap, or empty. Every time works with a click you can both feel and hear. I would suggest you call Earl. Good luck.

Dan,

The QA is more like a Glock. When the slide is pulled back the striker is pre-cocked and when the trigger is pulled it "cocks" the striker about an 1/8" more before releasing it. So in a sense yes it is double action only, but it is not like the P990 or first pull of the P99 regular with the long half inch 10 lb DA pull. The QA also breaks at 8 lbs.

Yes, you can see if the striker is cocked on the QA version. You can't feel it however, like you can on the P99. (Something I wish they would change on the QA).

It decocks the striker. A much more elegant solution than Glocks: pointing in a safe direction and pulling the trigger :D
