Walther P99.
Reasons:
1) It's a Walther
2) The Steyr does not fit my hand. The P99 can be made to do so.
3) Sub 2in groups at 25yds with the P99
4) It's a Walther, not a Steyr!!!!
I would take the Walther P99. I hate the Steyer sights. What's with the triangles anyway? The P99 can be made to fit your hand with the different backstraps and just feels better.
Definitely the Walther P99.........this is the best feeling gun that I own......and it is just as accurate as anything I have ever shot, as well as never having one problem whatsoever with it.
find a range that will allow you to do a side by side comparson. and then buy the Walther *Grin* <can you tell that some of us are a little biased here??> either that or buy 'em both.
You guys are really beating up Steyr here. I wonder how many of you have actually shot one ! They are incredible pistols. I don't hate the Walther, but it just doesn't compare to the Steyr in my opinion.
I haven't shot the Steyr M9, but have a M357 and it shoots nice. I'm getting a S9 and will let you know. I love my P99s, they feel better in my hand than the Steyr, but the Steyr does have less recoil than the comparable H&K USP357Sig Compact. I've never shot a P99 .40.
Walther all the way. I have a P99 and love it! And I could have bought any hangun at the time (this was BEFORE) Mass had the new AG and pretty much banned most new hangun sales......
Why so many Walther votes, get one and see for yourself! I've had my P99 for just over a year now and it has been great. Availability of 16 round 9mm high-caps is awfully nice, too.
I have not shot the M or S series Steyr, but do think that I'd like their funky triangular sights. I think you could find sub-$400 prices at gunbroker.com for the Steyr without looking too long.
The sights do take some getting used too, but I really like them now. They are real easy to pick up, but it becomes hard to switch between different sight pictures. If you buy one and don't like the sights, you can replace them for under $100.00.
I do not have any experience with the walther 99 as all walthers are ditributed by S&W. Have heard that the walther is much better than the s&w99. Did have an chance to fire a steyr in 40cal. Absolutely hated it. The weapon gave continous problems on cocking. Turns out that with this example, I had to place the pad of my finger tip on the face of the trigger to get it to properly function. If I ran my finger up to the 1st joint, I would get a click only and had to back off and try again.
Not so!!! Walthers are also imported by Earl's Repair Service in Tewksbury Mass!!! www.waltherusa.net Please check your sources before you speak!!! Walther has nothing to do with Slick& Willy, except for granting a distributorship, and granting licensing rights to use patented technology. I made the mistake, based upon the same false information, and sold my P99 years ago. I regreted it ever since. I had the chance to re-aquire a P99 recently. I pounced on it!!!
I apologize for the mistake. I had a ppks in need of repairs a couple of years back and had to send it to S&W for the authorized repairs after interarms had folded. Based on this information , s&w99 technology swap with walther, and various gun writers that had said walther was dist by smith, I had believed that this was still the case. Am glad to hear that they have another dist source.
