Walther P99 trigger behavior question

If one stages the trigger on a cocked P99, does the trigger reach a point prior to releasing the striker where a faint click can be heard and felt, and then releasing the trigger results in the equivalent of decocking the trigger? I have handled a P99 that has this condition, and would like to know if it is normal.

TIA,

arms, mine did the same thing, which made me very unhappy, i want to know that if i squeeze the trigger it's gonna go BANG. if you contact Earl, of earl's <www.waltherusa.net> he can replace the cam that allows that to happen.

good luck with it and let me know what happens.

I fired off an e-mail to Earl and await his reply. There is no question the gun will fire if the trigger is pulled, it's the darn 'click' and return to DA mode that's bothersome.

I thought I got a good deal on a lightly used P99...now I think I might have gotten the business.

arms, the trigger thing is not necessarily a problem. for me i just didn't want to be able to "decock" the firearm via trigger. let me know what earl has to say about your's.

It is annoying, but not a show-stopper, as you say. Earl confirmed this is not normal operation. He estimated $75 + shipping to repair, which eats up all the benefit of buying a used P99, pricewise...

...except...

I called Walther. A very personable customer service rep answered the phone. When I described the problem, he said something along the lines of, 'Well, lessee. I've got a P99 right here. Let's see if we can't duplicate the problem.' After a minute or two of explanation on my part, he concluded my P99 was defective. He then asked me for my address, so that he could send me a pre-paid FedEx shipping label to Walther for service! I informed him the gun was probably out of warranty. He said although the warranty is technically one year from date of purchase, he wanted the gunsmith, 'to see what he could do.' The implication being (IMO) that as long as the gun was not obviously abused, Walther would make it right, and on their dime!

If this all comes to pass as I hope, Walther will have added a loyal customer to its ranks! :)

BANG!
:D
Hope Walther treats you right.
I'm already a Walther fan for life. ASAP i'm going to get a P88.

NMGlocker,

Are you getting the full size or compact P88?

I've got the full sized and I will say it is the finest 9mm ever. I love mine. The DA trigger is as smooth as silk. And the SA is awesome also. And accuracy can't be beat.

arms, be very careful, that firearm is most likely going to s&w for work...eat the $75 and ship it to earl, he's an actual Walther armourer.

Just curious, this would be a problem, because?

ummm, let's start with they aren't walther, then shift into shoddy manufacturing of semi-autos, and then let's bring up politics and that damn agreement. s&w makes a damn fine revolver, but i wouldn't trust my life to one of their semi-autos.

of course this is all my opinion, you are entitled to your own.

Got it. Here's a bummer for you, then - S&W supplies quite a few other manufacturers with parts (as does Ruger). So, buy foreign, I guess.

Got it, I think. So you're shipping it back to Earl Walther?
