Walther P99 - To Stainless or not to Stainless

Just wondered if P99 owners preferred the stainless or blued slides, and what the perceived or actual pros and cons would be.

Also, I've shot the 9mm extensively but really fancy getting the .40, any opinions as to which caliber to go with also appreciated.

I think the choice between the two is a personal preference decision. Ive heard the QPQ finish is more durable than the black model but since both are tenifer coated, neither is going to wear excessively without lots of use. The QPQ model is easier to detail clean since every bit of fouling is easy to see against the silver slide.

I've heard it's hard to get fingerprints off of it

Ive found out that the trick to getting the QPQ finish looking like its brand new is to simply rub a normal pencil eraser over it and it shines like the day I got it.

Once again its personal preference. I personally feel the 40 is a better self defense round and can shoot it accurately enough. For me it was a choice between a slightly more powerful round with less mag capacity or a weaker round(still effective though) with a large capacity mag. I wouldnt worry about either the 40 or 9 having "bugs", my P99 in 40 is flawless and Ive actuall heard more problems with the 9mm concerning the 2 recoil assemblies than any 40 problems. Both the 9mm and 40 had a few bugs in the early models but they have since been corrected. Make sure to get a 100% German made P99 by looking for the "N" proofmark on the rear right of the slide under the eagle.

"2 recoil assemblies" ??? Please explain.
My P99 9mm military has one guide rod with one spring. What are you talking about?

I never have had problems with the 40 outside of the break in. I love the little bugger.

I think the nine FULL CAPICITY mags are available albeit expensive, 40 (two more) is stricktly post ban.

Get the fourty, and listen to how everybody attacks your decision, while you can say is that you group about as tight as any other gun you own.

I'm partial to 9mm myself. Never cared much for the .40S&W. Don't care too much for two-tone handguns either.
