Walther P88

Alright, I'm very close to buying one of these. I have always wanted one since i can remember. Anyone got any input? Is it as accurate as stated, I have heard some say the DA trigger is awful. The one I am going to buy is a fullsize.

Thanks.:p

I think it's well worth the money and yes it is as accurate as they say. The DA trigger on mine is long, but it is as smooth as glass. It is the nicest DA trigger I've ever felt, until I modified my wifes trigger on her Smith Revolver, (now it wins that battle).

You'll be very happy with it. I bought a gold inlay kit and inlayed the roll marks on the slide with the gold on mine. It looks awesome now.

Hello. I owned a P88 years ago. Yes, they are exceptionally accurate. They are also very, very reliable so long as you use ammo that has the same profile as ball. Mine was "short chambered" such that anything with a different bullet profile would engage the lands and grooves before the slide could fully shut and the bbl lock up.

I so suspect that pre-ban, original capacity magazines would be rather costly as well.

Sights were perfectly regulated out of the box.

Best.

I own one that I bought when they first came to this country. I still have it. That's saying alot for a die hard 1911 .45ACP fan. The double action pull is bad.......but no worse than any other and better than most. OTOH, the subsequent shots are single action and very accurate. Of course you couls cock the hammer and fire the first round single action as well. Very reliable.

Cons.

1. Mags are usually quoted at about $125.00 each.
but IIRC, I once considered converting a Beretta FS mag. I think this is the pistol and if so it looks very feasible without much alteration.

2. The grip is a bit thick for my taste.

They would still be around but were just too expensive......MSR $1500.00. Street price $800.00 to $1000.00

There was a nice write-up in Gun Digest the year they were introduced about the high quality and features. Of course all the rags say good things whether it's true or not but it did cover all the features. Get ahold of the gun digest for that year.

What everybody else has said goes for mine also.

Accurate
Ogive of bullet similar to ball feed the best
A bit thick (towards the top rear of the grip for me)
Long but very smooth DA trigger (It was the lightest, smoothest DA trigger on a semi I have shot until I tried a fellow TFLer's DA Para. Now that was the best DA I've tried even against revolvers.)

Otherwise, incredible build quality.

I, too, was considering one (Compact version) of these but I chose a P99 instead because 1) cost, 2) the grip is a little too fat for me, and 3) it felt too heavy for concealed carry. There was one for sale at a gun show - it was used and price was $800 - but after handling I decided against it. It felt very solid but quite heavy and too fat grip.
They are excellent guns, though, and if I had the extra money, I'd probably buy one anyway.
