Real quick question......is it worth $890?

I have a P99, but know nothing about the P5C. How is its reputation?

Did a search, came up with some info (nothing great).

Any opinions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

In Feb of 2001, I paid $825 for a used P5C in NRA Excellent condition, 4 magazines, wooden grips and the standard plastic grips, original box and papers (manual, etc.), a Wolff replacement recoil spring, 4 Wolff replacement magazine springs, and a Ken Null horsehide IWB holster delivered. Hope that info might help a bit on the financial side.

As to opinions of the pistol itself, the P5 design is very impressive and the pistol is a joy to shoot. The workmanship and aesthetics of the pistol are simply haunting. In the end, however, I'd reach for the P225 first if looking to carry something other than my P7M8. Still, my P5C ain’t for sale.

Good luck.

I think I paid around $575 for mine. It came with wood grips w/thumbrest. I didn't like the thumbrest, so I bought new plastic grips ($75) and I also had to have the backstrap repaired ($25). The backstrap is actually a separate piece from the grips and frame. In my opinion, this is the pistol's weak point.

Just my $0.02, but I don't think that a P-5C is a good value at $890, even in N.I.B. condition. At that price I think you are better off looking for a used P7M8.

Thanks for the input folks, I appreciate it........I did a little more research and people seem to be split on the gun overall. Some people think its the best thing since sliced bread, while most think its a very good gun but not a first choice 9mm. Plus, the cost is definitely a sticking point at almost $900 NIB.

I bought a LNIB P5 about three weeks ago for $650. Box, paperwork and two mags.
I like the gun so much that I just bought but haven't gotten yet, a NIM P5C to go with it for $899 inc. shipping. :D

I've fired the P7M8 many times before. Never wanted to own one. I favor the P5 for a single stack 9mmx19. I'm hoping that I like the C as much. ;)

P5 compact

You planning on buying this gun from Earl's !!!

That sounds like the sort of price he would charge. But what am I saying!! I paid close to $800 for my full size P5!!! They are "geut Deutsche Waffe", though!!! Mine's a gem!!

No, I'm not planning on buying it from Earl's. He would have been $925.00 with the $30 min. shipping charge and then I would have had to deal with Earl!.

I'm getting mine from Gulfstream Sports in FL. Val Shannahan is a far nicer guy to deal with than Earl which makes laying out the $899 a little easier. :D

The P5 and P5C are not real well known by many "shooters". I feel it's an excellent pistol. Soft recoiling and more than sufficient accuracy for a pistol of this type and it's intended purposes. ;)

Exactly......I thought I was the only one. Val from Gulfstream Sports is totally cool, thats who I would get it from. I'm still undecided though.

P5 is a pretty nice gun. I lucked into one for $450. Great shooter. Then I bought a P5C from Val. He's great to deal with and the P5C is also a great shooter. Feels really nice in the hand and very mild recoil, straight back because of the dropping lug design (ala Beretta 92F, but Walther had it first in the P38).

Interestingly enough, the one's Val has are imported through Earls Repair Service :D

Get it, you'll like it. It's a keeper. BUT, if you don't have a P7; Get that first :D

Regards,
James
