Was there really only 1000 "first editions" made? or is it 1000 every year? I just got one and it is of 2002 vintage, with a fired shell casing from march of this year. also whats the best ammo to use in this thing. Or shouldnt I shoot it, because its a collectable?
Any help would be appreciated!:)

Yes, that is my understanding that only 1000 were made WORLDWIDE, and I cannot get Walther to tell me how many were imported to the US. So, when I get mine (if I ever do), it is a "safe-queen" not to be shot. They seem to be in pretty short supply and my dealer's wholesaler is "allocating" them. They have only received about 5 so far this year.

Of course, if it's anything like my P22 I already own (with both barrels), it's not going to shoot worth a darn anyway

I'm very disappointed with mine, you can search the archives for my comments.

I'm a Walther fanatic and I'll defend the P99 to the mat, but my P22 so far is crap. I know some people have perfect gems, but there is a LOT of people bitchin' about theirs.

I've had two range sessions so far with it. I'm going to give it the third college try and then send it back to S&W for repairs if it doesn't straighten out.

The date on the envelope is 14-03-02 (March 14, 2002)

I bought the 3.42" barrel version of the pistol, and the 5" barrel separately.

Surprisingly enough, and to my great delight, my P22 performed FLAWLESSLY today. I shot 50-75 rounds of all my various ammo, including the cheap Federal Walmart stuff, and had NO failures to feed whatsoever.

I guess it is officially "Broken-in" now :D. It was even surprisingly accurate from the bench at about 10 yds, with Federal Match and didn't do that bad with any of the others.

Part of the problem with accuracy is the sight picture is difficult to get with such a wide gap in the rear sight/front blade line-up. But with practice, it can be very accurate - that is, the 5" barrel version.

I'm not convinced yet that the 3.4 inch barrel version is as accurate, but that's a story for the next range report :D

My 8 year old daughter got to shoot it for the first time today, and she loved it. Did very well with it too!

Friend and I ran 4,500 rds of every type of ammo thru his 5" Walther P22, without cleaning. There were no FTF or FTE.Accuracy was acceptable. Did this number of rounds in one weekend.Love the lil pistol!

Damn, who'd you talk into loading magazines for you? That's 450 magazine loads ! :p

Surely you had to tighten the barrel sleeve or the compensator screws didn't you? Or did you loctite them before you started shooting? Mine came loose my first two times out, had to tighten them pretty snug, but my comp still came loose. I'm not in favor of loctiting them since you have to take them off to clean.:(

Yes, I used "blue" loctite before taking it to the range, after reading all the other posts about things shooting loose. Blue loctite still lets you break the fastner for cleaning whenever. Didn't have anything come loose, with all those rds. being shot.
Also, I'm not in "SALES" for Walther-Smith and Wesson either.
