Walther P22 5" revisited

I had cabin fever yesturday, so I ventured out and braved the snow and mud to do a little shooting. I took along my P22 and found some different ammo to try in it.

I first tried some Federal 40 gr. "classic" high velocity. This stuff work really well. No problems with feeding or extracting. This ammo also gave me a nice 1" group from 10 shots at 15 yards.

I then tried some American Eagle (still made by Federal) 38 gr. regular velocity ammo. This is the stuff that you can get for $8 a brick or less. I had nothing but problems. I had one stove pipe, 1 failure to extract, 1 failure to feed out of 20 rounds.

I thought that maybe the American Eagle stuff wasn't working as well, because I had just dirtied up the gun with the other stuff, so I shot some more Federal 40 gr. It worked just as well as the first time.

So I guess the moral of the story is that the P22 likes the higher end ammo. I am going to buy some really high end stuff, like Eley match ammo, just to see how good of groups I can get out of this gun. I'm almost positive that this gun will shoot some really good sub 1" groups with the right ammo. I'll report back when I'm able to shoot the match grade stuff.

Thanks

for the info, P99. I haven't had mine out yet, work and weather have conspired against me. But when I do, I'll keep this in mind. I have some match grade, so I'll take that and give it a whirl too.

Typically WALTHER. Works well with some ammo, and won't work at all with some others. When you find the right ammo it should be a real tack driver..ENJOY..:)
