Walther P1 and P38

I always liked army and police surplus guns, they have a special place in history and in my heart, even the common and cheap ones.

This was my last purchase of 2021, got them on Thursday last week. Saw an ad for the P1 at $ 370 with holster and two mags.

Seller mentioned he also had a P38 for the same price. I think it’s also an ex army gun. Didn’t really need it but at this price might as well take it home. Came with a modern Sickinger holster. Both pistols had two mags corresponding to the guns. He also threw in two brand new triple K mags still in original packaging, not sure if they’re any good.

P1

That’s four of them now with the AC 44 and the 7.65 mm from 1976

The army was issued the P1. Commercial sales and some authority purchases were P38s. They’re basically the same weapon. Both of yours are earlier in that they do not have the reinforcing cross-bolt installed in the frame. The alloy frame adopted after WWII sometimes cracked under the stress of recoil. Assuming everything else about them is safe, it’s OK to shoot them but I’d suggest staying away from high-pressure ammunition

I have an AC 42, neat gun. One thing about it that really surprised me is the ejection. In all the stuff I've ever read about P.38s, I never once found any information about the fact that the gun ejects TO THE LEFT! :D

I've only had the one, so it might just be my individual gun, but I don't think so. Do they all eject to the left?
