Walther High-Caps in SW99 9mm?

Has anyone tested Walther high-capacity 9mm magazines in an SW99 pistol? I have the mags and am trying to decide which pistol to get. And please don't bother telling me to "just get a Walther" without a more solid reason than that the Walther is "the original" and is made in Germany. I prefer several things about the S&W version - not the least of which is price.

I did try one of my Walther Mags in the S&W recently and it looked like a perfect fit. Went right in and the follower and feed lips looked identical except for color, so I'm 99% sure they will work. But I'd like to hear from someone who has actually tried it. Thanks.

I had the same question in reverse. I wanted to know if SW99 mags could be used in the P99. So, I called S&W. They told me that the magazine spring tensions were different between the two pistols, and therefore, the magazines were not interchangable.

I'm not sure, that in this case at least, that I believe that a difference in magazine spring tension makes an otherwise identical magazine usable in one pistol but not in the other. That sounds like marketing to me.

I received an e-mail from S&W months ago indicating that the magazines are not interchangeable, but this sounds like marketing/policy/liability driven answer, not a physical fact. I know they fit just fine and appear identical in all significant ways. If the spring tension is different, then I supposed I could get a replacement spring, but I really doubt this is necessary.

Denfoote,
I'm a little surprised that you would want to use S&W mags in a Walther. I want to go the other way because the only legal high-caps I could get were Walthers. Do the standard-capacity S&W mags cost less? Or do the S&W mags really have stronger springs? Why the interest? My understanding is that there are no civilian-legal high-cap SW99 mags.

Doug,
At the time there was no available P99 mags to be had in the state of Arizona. I had just bought the last Interarms mag in the state.
The call to S&W was out of desperation! This was before I knew about Earl's Repair Service! At $125.00 a piece, P99 high caps are still to pricy for me. So I have 8 ten round mags to make up for the lack of fire power. My local gunshop ordered some mags from S&W, but to my knowledge, they never did ship them. I buy from Earl's now.
