Walmart Ammo

On 10-28-10 at Walmart I found the 100 round box of Rem 38 sp +P 125 gr SJHP #L38S2B yesterday for $29.97/bx. This is less than what I've been paying for FMJ target loads. I'm pretty new to this but isn't this a good price? I thought that it would be good to buy these for the indoor range given my SD round is a +p. Thoughts?

I agree.
I've spent the last years stockpiling 3 different calibers(1000 rounds each)
Now ammo is available everywhere..

Great amo, I have gone through a few boxes of it, and it is the best deal I have seen anywhere for 38..not to mention its +P and hollowpoint

Actually if you are looking for range ammo I would go with the same load in a SJSP (semi-jacketed soft point) and keep the SJHP for protective duty. The point of aim for the soft point and the hollow point should be about the same.

If you find the SP at the same price. If all Wally World has is the HP, @ 30 cents per round, waste the HP!

FMJ's aren't .38 target loads. Plus P's most assuredly aren't.
"...given my SD round is a +p..." Remington? If not, there's no guarantee they'll shoot the same way as whatever brand you've been using.
If you change ammo, you must sight in again. And hope they shoot as well.
If you're not reloading, you must try a box of as many brands and bullet weights as you can to find the ammo your revolver shoots best. The price means nothing.

I agree that it appears the ammo shortage is all but over; now the prices just need to start drifting south. Was in Cabela's last weekend; they had 50-rd boxes of Sellier & Belloit (sp?) 9mm FMJs for $9.95 a box. That's a trip in the way-back machine ... grabbed a bunch ... they had ammo everywhere, stacked on endcaps and the shelves were full .. the only things I coudn't find were Hornady Critical Defense for my 1911s ...

"You reloader snobs!"

We're not snobs......we've just seen the light:D

30 cents a round is why I started reloading. Love to shoot my SP101 357. Could not shoot it as much as I like if I didn't reload. Although the price is not bad from what I've seen in the past (if you could get it).

m.p.driver - That will be the day that you can get ammo for that price again! If it does come down that, I'll just put my reloading equipment in storage.

I say go for it. Remington makes good ammo and what you bought is a good defensive round at a good price. Odds are, it will shoot well outta your gun. If you were already shooting a 125gr +p, this ammo probably wont print much differently, especially @ SD range.

When I was going through over 1,000 rounds a week practicing for Bullseye competition it was the only way to go.

The commercial loads are not that good and very pricey (not like they ever made them in real volume production forcing the cost up).
