Wally world Mossberg

I saw a 12 gauge on sale for $150 there last week with synthetic black. I'm not sure if it was the 500 or 835 model, although likely the first (I was in a hurry to get out of that mad-house). What are the feelings about Mossbergs bought there? Is this a good deal? I'm not a serious hunter and this would be my first scattergun ;)

Sounds like a great deal. The 835 IIRC is a 10-gauge barrel, so you can shoot 3.5" shells, but you CANNOT shoot slugs through it.

Either 500 or 835 for $150 would be a great shotgun.

It may be their off-brand "Maverick 88". If so, not as good a deal, but not bad.

I have a friend who just bought that same mossberg that you are talking about. Had it out a couple days ago and it works just fine. You really cant beat the deal, i am going to go buy mine tommarow.

maverick

it is a maverick made by mossberg in eagle pass texas, i purchased one in november, took it hunting in december, killed an eight point buck and a turkey hen. the only thing i dont like about it is it is so light that the 3mags hurt like hell, im going to add a recoil pad to help with the kick.

Posts: 72 friend of mine has one, first pump i've seen that actually jams frequently--avoid

Probably needs to clean it good or change ammo.

My maverick 88 has served me well for 2 years now, I also own a synthetic stocked mossberg 500 persuader.

The differences between the two are very small, they can even interchange most parts (barrels, stocks, anything but forends and triggers)

They are essentially the same gun (although QC seems to be a bit better with the 500)

Maverick arms is owned by mossberg anyway.

I would highly recommend one.

The biggest shortcoming of the Maverick vs. 500, is the former has a crossbolt safety, rather than the ambi safety. Silly thing to change.

Academy has the Maverick 88 for $137.47. At that price it won't bother me to saw off the barrel before I bring it into the house.

I notice all these people that have these "sorry, no good, jamming guns", usually have a lack of experience with a pump, or they don't clean their guns. It doesn't do them any good, either, to be abused during a temper tantrum.

I like my Wallyworld Mossberg 500, except that despite being well cleaned and never mishandled, I've always (since I bought it new 9 years ago) had a problem with the safety sliding "on" sometimes. It's a bit sensitive to recoil, I guess, and it does kick like mule. I never bothered to take it back for repair, though I wish I had. I don't think it would worth it to have it looked at.

Still, I'm fond of it.

I have a Maverick as well, never had a single problem with it. I evendo some clay-shooting with it, works perfectly.

It would be a great buy

I bought the Maverick 88 at wallyworld about 2 years ago and i've yet to have a problem with it. I probably dont shoot as much as some of you do, but when I do take it out, it hasn't failed me yet.

My freind had one then i was so fond of it i bought one about three weeks ago. We went camping about a week and a half ago and i fired approx 350 rounds through my gun, shootin skeet. It never jammed or anything. never had a problem with either of our guns and i would highly recommend.

I do notice that you do have to make sure you rack it all the way. If you dont it will seem to jam and just wont shoot. So make sure you rack it all the way when you are shooting.

why pay the same money for a cast pieceof pot metal when for hte same money you can buy a 870 express out of forged and machined steel.

Skip the mossy and the maverick and by an Express or an H&R knockoff.

Mossbergs are very good shotguns not "a cast piece of pot metal" I love my Maverick 88 I got it about 2 years ago(from wal-mart) and it has not jamed at all as a matter of fact my bros Remington 870 Super Mag would jam almost shot becuase Remington made the chambers of their shotguns slightly egg shaped only after he sanded the chamber does it work.

And since the U.S. Army used to use Mossberg shotguns that should say how good Mossberg shotguns are.

Michael.
