Wallet Holster

Hello, I am interested in finding a galco wallet holster for an American Derringer DA 38 that I own. From the research that I have done, this type of holster in which the gun can be fired from without removing the gun from the holster is banned from the ATF to be carried or used with the firearm.

Is this true?

Is there any way possible to make this combination legal; so the holster and gun can be used together.

All the info on this I can get would be great.

I didn't realize you couldn't do that anymore :eek:. But in my google search, I came across some pretty cool wallet holsters that stay behind in your pocket :cool:. I might have to buy another beretta bobcat or something :D.
 
You can, with registration and a tax stamp from ATF. The classification would be "Any Other Weapon."
Not sure if the fee would be $5 or $200.
 
A wallet holster made by Galco or any other reputable holster maker will not be classified as an AOW by the ATF because the gun cannot be safely fired without removing it from the holster. In the case of Galco, theirs is a pocket holster designed to give the appearance of a wallet while in your pocket so as to aid in concealment. The only true wallet holsters I've ever seen were custom made by an individual.
 
I saw some custom made holsters at a gun show a few weeks ago. They retained a sub compact wile firing. The guy and his wife where pushing them hard explaining that the design of the holster made it a more stable shooting platform for the small gun. Wonder if he knows what he is selling a NFA item. Never even crossed my mind that it might be a problem. If I had something small enough to fit I might have got one.:eek:
 
Ok, it doesn't have to make sense, but....

To assemble one on your gun you must submit a Form 1 to The Man. However you choose to do it, trust, corporation, or as an individual, and pay the $200 to "manufacture" the AOW. A disguised weapon. If you buy one already manufactured and on a Form 4, simply submit your trust, corp paperwork, or prints and photos, and $5.

Insanity, but this is from the "shoelace is a machinegun" people.
 
I stood there and talked to them and looked over all of the custom made concealed carry stuff for at least 15 minutes and never heard anything about form 4 AOW or NFA mentioned to anyone.

I think the laws are to numerous and complicated for the average person to keep track of without running everything by the internet lawyers. And as we all know ignorance is never acceptable, in the eyes of the law.:(
 
If the slide of the gun is visible, then it it is OK, like this one:

The one's that are NFA conceal the entire gun and allow it to be fired. Galco used to make one for the High Standard DA Derringer and the Beretta 950 and 21 that allowed this operation. They are different from pocket holsters:
