Walk In Gun Vault

I have always wanted a walk in gun vault and was curious about controlling the humidity inside. Since it's much larger than a standard gun vault what would be the most effective way to control the humidity? I thought about a dehumidifier but don't want to have to empty the water every day, and a dry rod is not going to get the job done.

Run HVAC duct work from your house system into it. There are humidifiers you do not empty every day, but your A/C system should do the trick

HVAC is the ticket, but you can run a dehumidifier and drain it outside of the vault by attaching a hose to it. I believe all dehumidifiers offer this as an option, rather than collecting the water in the container.

Wouldn't placing penetrations for standard HVAC in the vault defeat the purpose of having a sealed vault?

I'm envisioning a boat with a window unit ... doesn't work out too well.

Not really, a small duct opening won't allow folks to crawl into vault. If the collection has some serious value, a fire suppression system should also be included in the plan

A smoke/fire damper can be installed in the duct to retain the fire resistive design of a vault. That said, I would not duct into the vault. It allows the humidity from outside the vault to enter the vault. I would install an electric cadet heater and a dehumidifier with the drain piped out of the vault.

most modern HVAC systems can maintain 43% humidity without any problem as long as you have a vent(s) that are rated for the size room. Think about it.. how many people backintheday kept rifles in the living room on a wall mounted rifle rack... they never rusted.
