OK guys, wanna give California to Bush?

In 1988, Al Gore enlisted the support of the "Reverend" Fred Phelps Sr, arguably the single most disgusting "Christian" alive today.

Phelps just loved Gore's anti-gay stance, and is now pissed off that Gore flopped. *Knowing* how he's generally viewed, he published details on his own website; go to: http://www.godhatesfags.com/algore.html

If you can stand it, check out the rest of Phelps' site. This is the jerk that pickets the funerals of AIDS victims. On his website is a picture of Matt Shepard surrounded by flames, with descriptive text about how he'll "rot in hell for dying as an unrepentant faggot". I mean, even if you're basically anti-gay, this dude is WAY over the top by any rational standard.

Tomorrow first thing I'm going to run the pictures off the Phelps site down to the SF Bay Guardian, who I assume will scream bloody murder and call for Nader support again.

Also, the Contra Costa Times has publicly supported Bush...so it's barely possible they'll run this story too. If we can get it going as a "breaking media story" this weekend, Gore's odds in California will be lower than rattlesnake spit.

Any other ideas as to how we ca blow this open are welcome. I assume most of the resulting support will head to Nader but since the Republican party has been buying Nader ads of late, that doesn't appear to be a problem :).

I just looked at a round up of a dozen or so
polls. If Mr. Nader is vying for five per
cent of the popular vote, he's looking at
an uphill battle. I see him with twos and
threes in most of the polls.

Of course, looking at the Browne, Phillips,
Buchanan numbers and I am wondering if the
Reform Party movement over the past eight
years may have turned voters off to third
party efforts for the foreseeable future.
 
I've discussed an issue or two with Mr. Phelps before. If Gore can be convincingly linked to Phelps, he's toast. But is there time to do that?
 
The best thing anyone could do would be to just pass this link around to as many people as you can. The more people who know about Gore and Phelps, the fewer votes Gore will get.

I've known Phelps for 40 years and he's meaner than a snake. Phelps has the dubious distinction of being the first (in Kansas history) candidate for the bar who had legal ethics charges pending against him before he even graduated from law school.

Don, if you ever have an occasion to speak with "Rev." Phelps again, ask him how he acquired title to the "Phelps Compound" where he and his brood now reside. Absolutely MEAN! :eek:

I mean, I can't even comprehend how a brain like Phelps' works. Picketing funerals to hurl insults at the departed? In the name of CHRIST?

And the worst of it is, Phelps must *know* how he's viewed. He knows that any verifiable link between him and any serious politician will slaughter that politician's career...that's why he's publishing the pics.

How can somebody like that function? The levels of hate involved should have eaten him up from the inside out, *literally*.

What the hell is with this dude?!

Yup....he's got issues, as I like to say. I've only had occasion to speak to him by e-mail. That was enough for me.
 
I went to a concert once in Lawrence, Kansas which was picketed by Phelps and his crew. I couldn't figure out why they were there, since the event had nothing to do with homosexuality. They were carrying signs showing Matthew Shepherd in hell. I guess the Rev. missed that "Love your neighbor" stuff in the Bible.
 
Mr. March, others, as a favor to "REAL", Christians, please do not use the term to relate to Mr Phelps......... :(
We have a hard enough time trying to show the love of God, without being lumped in with one that is patently obvious not a REAL Christian...........

Also, Jim March? I know of this guy who does a little radio show...his name is, I think, Limbaugh...he might like to know about this. I think he has an email address, too. ;)
