Waiting period?

I've been searching high and low, half the summer for a Sendero SF in a .300 mag. Found one finally at a very good price over in Omaha, NE(I'm a IA resident). So I gather up all my nickles and dimes and dive the 45 miles over there. Then go marching in there to claim this beauty. The salesman takes all my vitals, I write a bunch of no's and 2 yes's on the old yeller sheet. He gets on the phone, comes back in a couple minutes to tell me I gonna have to wait. "How long?", I ask. Ummm, could be an hour, could be a day, no more than 3 though. Boy that made me feel better, no more than three. What happened to all this instant check crap?? I realize I've been waiting for several months and and couple more days isn't gonna kill me, but geez. What the heck is the deal with waiting 3 days? Maybe I need to cool off? Cars kill more people than guns why don't they make you wait three days for one of them?

Rant, rant... Okay, I feel better now. Well not really.

FWIW, I have had no problems with hangun purchases clearing NCIC, but with rifle purchases, it always goes past the 3 days...

Handgun NCIC check in Oregon done by State...

Rifle NCIC check done by FEDS...

SOLUTION:

Whenever I go buy a rifle, I also buy a pistol.( even if it is one of those $49.00 Raven or Jennings .22/.25 autos)

More cost, but get rifle same day as it is run through State NCIC with pistol...

( always can re-sell pistol to dealer. ;) )

FE, I've been voting Republican since 1980, and yet it happens. I already voted this year, for Bush...again.

GIT, I ran out of dimes, can barely afford the Sendero.

If any of you guys are wondering what to get me for X-mas, I'd sure like a VARI-XIII 4.5-14x40 to stick on this beast. If I ever get it that is.

Waiting period? Get this:

I live in Kalif. A month ago, I take a pistol to a gun dealer to sell for me on consignment. A week ago, I met a guy who wants to do a trade.

I go to get my pistol back. I pay a transfer fee, I have to wait ten days FOR MY OWN GUN, and it counts toward the twelve handguns the state will let me buy in a year.

Be glad you live in America. Stay east, young man, stay east.

The FFL ripped you off... If you put in on Consignment, you are still the legal owner, and there should be no transfer required, and no DROS to take possession of your own property.

It sounds like the FFL initated a transfer of your gun, to him, when he placed it on consignment, and to get it back, you needed to reverse it. I would be seeking damages.

Well my story has a happy ending. The gun shop calls me at 9:30 this morning and lets me know I can now come pick up my rifle. So this afternoon I drive the 90 mile round trip to pick her up. Sorry to hear about your's, Ledbetter. It's a free country, so they tell us.

I agree with Jaydee...Ledbetter, you got ripped off. You have got to watch FFL dealers because they will and do screw people especially here in CA.

I had an FFL dealer and all his employees try to convince me that all pistol transfers must legally be FFL to FFL regardless. After complaining with them and faxes of the acual regs from the ATF to them, I finally got out of him that what he told me was not correct, but in fact just a personal preference. Jacka$$ lied to me. You have to watch these bastards like a hawk or they'll rip you off.
Muleshoe,
Glad everything worked out.

I have never had to wait. I have been in a store though when the yellow form was delayed for someone else. As I was told, the reason for up to three days is because if the FBI doesn't get back to the store in 72 hours, it is as good as passing.

Republicans aren't a guarntee. NY just got a massive gun law that ONLY a Republican could have passed, as a Democrat could not have gotten enough support just on general partisanship. Republican governor Pataki pushed the bill, a gun-grabber's dream, through where Cuomo never could.
