Wainting for my mk-9

I've been casually looking for a Kahr mk-9 for a few months.
Living in massachusettes it must be made before 10/98 to be
compliant with our laws.

I have found a few dozen on the internet and e-mailed the serial #'s to kahr with no luck. Sent another # to them from a dealer in conn. thurs. and got a HIT! made in 1/98.

I paid for it saturday and gave the info to my FFL, now I just have to wait for the transfer to go through, probally have it in a week or two .

Man it sucks... We don't have waiting periods YET.. But I sure know how you guys feel that do.

Cool Gun! One of the best.if not the best smaller gun made!
I have to admit, having to wait like alot of people tell of, would
be frustrating...I am SPOILED! If I find a gun I want and I have $
I can walk out with it in about 15 min. NO FEES...in UT, CCW permit holders get all of the paperwork fees waived. Gun, taxes and a phone call to make sure you arent robbing liquor stores.

I am sure there are places that are easier than here to get a gun! AZ, ID, WY etc... However, I have to say I feel quite lucky to live where I do.....shoot well

Thanks...it is a dynamite little gun, bought one when they first came out in 97 I think.. I loved it but then got the glock bug and sold it for a mod.26.
Regretted it since, and with the massachuettes gun laws I have not seen one ForSale here in a long time.

Line from original post: "Living in massachusettes it must be made before 10/98 to be compliant with our laws."

I'm unfamiliar with MA laws. Why the restriction?

BTW, congratulatons on your purchase. I'm envious! I just posted here about possibly trading in a Kahr P9 Covert for a MK9. I've never had the chance to shoot or even hold one yet because the shops (2) we have around here don't carry them. I haven't seen anything but positive comments about these (except maybe the weight).

Have a great one!

Picked up the mk-9 this past saturday. As advertised it was in "as new condition" shot it over the weekend and the term used by Indy_Sig "simply the best" is an understatement! It is much more accurate in my hand than my glocks have been, unbelievably east to shoot, after 100rds I felt good enough to try some point shooting and shoot on the move drills and was suprised with what this little gun can do to say the least.

I can not for the life of me figure out why I ever got rid of the first one I had. My kramer pocket holster came tuesday and it is terrific, well worth the money. I had been using a UM size 3 and a old mika pocket holster but the kramer makes a world of difference.

Great guns, those MK's. A bit heavy, but built like a little-bitty TANK! You made a great purchase... I know I'm biased, but I can't imagine why anyone would ever want anything else for super-concealed carry! I know they're a LOT heavier, but they're not THAT much bigger than the Kel-Tec P32. Disappears in a pocket.

I bought one for my wife as a BD present a few years back. She thinks it's the only gun in the whole world. I've tried repeatedly to get her something else for the house, and I always get "I don't need another gun, I've got MINE".

When I saw that G.D. was looking for an MK9 several months ago for his son, I tried to talk my wife into selling hers. "Honey, they have this STUPID gun law in Massa(can't spell it) that they can only have guns made prior to (september?)'98, and I bought yours in February. We live in the great state of GA, so I could run right out and buy you a brand new one, and you'd never notice the difference! You'da thought I was trying to throw away her great grandmother's favorite afghan!!

She's probably gonna be mad when she finds out I bought a Glock 19 to go in her bedside gunsafe

If the serial number is before GA1000 (GA is the first series) be sure to test fire extensively. Most of the bugs were worked out by 700 and Kahr will correct the problems.

See in October of 98 a poltergeist invaded the Kahr plant and cursed some of the guns ... making them prone to floating around and shooting people by themselves. So Mass banned them (it's for the kids you know)

Hey pocketman,

I'm glad to hear that you like your MK.
I plan on heading to my dealer after work today to pick up mine.

I hope to have a first range report ready by tomorrow.

I'm feeling all tingly now.:D

mass laws...consumer protection laws enacted in 10/98 new guns sold in mass. after that date have to meet certian criteria.

Its all bull****..

The only new guns you can currently buy here are S&W's,Sigs and the Walther p-99 series. Any use'd guns have to have been made before 10/98, The AG is pulling another rabbit out of his hat and soon the used guns you can get will also be limited to the ones he deems fit for duty and make his special list of approved guns, also any used guns declared worthy must have been in mass already, post or prior 10/98 to be transferd.

mini14jac...let me know if you how you make out with you new mk-9, I like mine more each day. Having used a lot of different pocket holsters I highly reccomend the kramer pocket holster for the MK, I also use a kramer pocket for my S&W 342 and it works well, but I like the kramer auto design more than the snubby design.

Jeff...My first mk-9 was #GA050x and it did go back to kahr for an extractor update, This MK is #GA18xx and has been perfect.

I've been thinking of getting either a K9 or MK9 for awhile now. I work with someone who has a MK9 and it is his favorite pistol. I've handled the K9 and MK9 in the gun shop and really prefer the feel of the K9. Don't like the two fingered grip. I realize that the MK9 conceals better but isn't the K9 still a damn good CCW? Does anyone have both? Comparisons on how they shoot?
Thanks.

Harrydog...
I have never shot a K-9 but I did own a K-40 for a while, it was a terrific shooter and a great gun for IWB carry.

I have no dowt the K-9 would be just as nice a shooter. There are pinky rests availably for the MK-9's and they also come with a 7 rd mag with extension that would give you a similar feal to the sdlightly larger K-9.
