Hi All,

Im hopeing to be educated on the gun concealment and open carry laws in Washington State as i am looking to become a first time pistol owner very soon. So if you all can share some more information, possibly stories, or even links to websites where a lot of questions can be answered. i would really like to know where and where you are not allowed to carry a pistol period.

Thanks,
Joshua

I support you on your plan to get a CCP and actually use it.

Suggest you search this forum a little, since there have been some good WA State threads in the last couple of years. Also thehighroad.com and gunrightsmedia.com.

One big benefit is that you will be able to buy a pistol from a dealer and walk out the door with it, without the waiting period.

See you at the Puyallup gun show this weekend :D

And the pols in Olympia will know that yet one more voter is serious about gun rights.

Never had any issues open carry. Although I do live in a little hick town and everyone is packing. Tricky about carrying without a permit is transporting in a vehicle. You still have to have it locked away from the ammo or in plain sight with the ammo locked away.

My cpl took three days to receive in the mail and cost 55.49

Seattle area, always conceal. anywhere north of Everett and noone will even notice you're open carrying.

Don't open carry, LEOs don't like the calls it generates.

But open carry is legal. I saw a guy in downtown Seattle with a gun on his hip at lunch time, and a lot of people were giving the guy a hard look, but I didn't see any obvious "man with a gun" reactions. I think open carry is a bad idea, but it is legal.

Open carry is pretty well tolerated in the Seattle area

If you choose to open carry be sure to have a high quality holster with at least one level of retention to it. In the Seattle area, NEVER put your hand on your pistol in public! You'll surely get a very quick visit from the local LEO's. Open carry is well tolerated in the Seatle downtown area & down near the piers and aquarium. I've been down there numerous times, and I've never had any issues.
Better yet, get your CPL. It's not expensive, and you'll get it very quickly. Usually around 4-5 Weeks, usually faster if you apply for it in a smaller town. Cost is generally around $50-$75 depending on what the local magistrate adds to the tab. I got mine in Spokane and it cost me $65. I live in Idaho, so I had to get my Washington License to carry there.
You can't carry in any Sports arena that has seating of 2500 or greater. No guns in any gov't building. No guns on any Campus to the best of my knowledge.

There are some very good websites dedicated to answer your questions. Here are a couple:
http://www.ccrkba.org/?page_id=1217
http://opencarry.org/ Go to the MAPS page to get specific State by State laws.

I wish you well

Don't open carry, LEOs don't like the calls it generates.

It really depends on what part of the state you live in. Last month the Sheriff of Yakima County encouraged people to open carry because of a rash of drive-by shootings

But thats Yakima County, the Baghdad/Kabul of Washington State.

If you live in city limits you need to go to your police station, if you live out of city limits you need to go to the Sheriff's office. Took me 3 days to get my permit. Don't be disappointed when you get it, its just a piece of paper, won't even have your picture on it. I recommend getting it laminated when you get it.

Since you're new at firearms.

Get some training. NRA classes are available at gun ranges, shops, shows and sometimes the police might have a class. Ask around.

Aloha, Mark
