W on Winfrey

When I got home my wife said she had watched
George W on the Opra Winfrey show and that he had given a very good account of himself.
She had also watched when Bobdole was on and said she thought he was still pretty stiff.
This encourages me as my wife is not a one topic voter and still retains some of her liberal ways and also because if it looks good on Opra lots of women will give it some thought.
Anyone watch this?

Although I normally avoid that show like the plague, I was curious to see how he'd do in that type of setting. Overall I thought he did quite well--lots of good responses and funny quips at the right moments. Spoke honestly about why he quit drinking. Came across as a genuine human being unlike stickman Gore. Audience was pro-Bush and cheered very enthusiastically at the right times, except for the heckler that blurted out something about halfway through the show. Oprah had to go to a commercial to have the obnoxious twit extracted from his seat. Couldn't really hear what he yelled but sounded like something to do with "sanctioned bombing." I have no idea what it was in reference to or even if I heard correctly. W bounced back from that disruption with no problem.

Hopefully it made as good an impression with the millions that watch that show as it seemed to do with the studio audience.

I think GNL pretty much summed it all up. I don't watch Oprah, but I made it a point to watch today's show. I was impressed with W. I wish he could have talked issues more (like taxes, SS, and the military), but the show was pretty tightly scripted. And although we all know who Oprah is voting for, at least she was pretty fair and seemed to be enjoying their interview.

Issues aside, I can't believe how anyone can see Gore as more personable. W comes across as a fairly normal guy which is exactly what this country needs after eight years of Slick Willie. Gore has gotten better at projecting a likeable personality, but it's still plainly obvious that it's quite an effort for him.

Between now and November 7 we need to work hard to get W elected. Everybody should have a W sign or bumpersticker in their car and a yard sign on the lawn (or in the window for you apt. dwellers). Call friends and relatives and neighbors. Slap a W button on your shirt and discuss the election with anyone who'll listen. The only other possible outcome is totally unacceptable. We have to make sure this doesn't happen.

Daytime TV is anathema to me, but I had to watch to see how GW did. He was very loose, quick-witted and accomplished his mission. If only he could show that side of his personality on some of the "real" talk shows.
To her credit, Oprah actually seemed to make an effort to help him at times.

Keeping all appendages crossed in the hope that Bush will win.

SubMOA,

I see your bumpersticker and yard sign and raise you one visit to the local Dubya for Prez headquarters.

They need volunteers, especially in battleground states. Wholesale politics wins elections. If you are not in a battleground state, volunteer for a local guy who needs your help.
