W. German-made P228 with 1994 date code??

I was looking at my P228 today... more specificially, at the date code. The code on mine indicates it was proofed in Germany in 1994. At the same time, however, the right side of the slide indicates that the pistol was manufactured in West Germany! Is that just a little bit strange, or is it normal for pistols to sit around 4 years before being proofed?

No, that is unusual. Maybe they just put the wrong die in the roll marker for the slide, or stamped the wrong code. It is possible that the slide was finished many years ago and was not mated to a frame and barrel until later.

At any rate it is different. You have a variation that may appear in Fjestads in the coming years.

I tend to believe that there was some sort'a delay in
mating the parts. I'm fairly certain that the slide was
manufactuered before the wall came tumbling down.
Maybe they had more slide's made up, than they did
frames to put them on? At any rate, it is my personal
opinion that West German manufactuered Sig's will
certainly rise in value as time goes by. Also, the Sig
line of "classic" P-series pistols are some of the very
finest firearms ever to be found on the face of this
old earth.:D :)
