VZ-58

Any thoughts on a VZ-58 ? Found one at a good price and was looking for some feedback. Lots of trigger time with AK's and AR's but nada with this one.

They are really good guns, one of my favorites. A lot of people say they're better than AK's, I personally haven't found that to be true. They have some advantages but also some disadvantages. Nonetheless, very cool guns, reliable, fun to shoot, and have more cool factor than just about any other military-pattern rifle.

If by really good price you mean you've found a $400 Century Arms clone, buy with caution. These rifles aren't made to spec and if you're looking to add some of the accessories for the Vz58 to the rifle, many won't fit. The barrel isn't a chrome lined mil-spec barrel either.

If you've found a real CZ made rifle for a good price, then it's one of the best 7.62x39 rifles out there. Outstanding firearms.

If it's a CzechPoint / D-TECHNIK model, then it is a fantastic firearm. Every bit better than an AK47 IMO. But it depends on what you mean by good price. A good one is more expensive than an AK47, but maybe not as much as a tricked out AR.

Unlike AK47's, there are two major "brands" for a Vz. The good one, and the bad one. Stay away from Century ($400'ish).

The VZ58 is an excellent rifle and much better than your run of the mill AK. If the receiver is stamped D-Technik it was either imported and converted by CZ, or Czechpoint (which did the conversions for CZ USA as well). Mine has been reliable and accurate from day one. Te only downside is that the magazines are expensive, but I'm willing to pay the price just to own the thing. It is a hoot to shoot. Don't waste your time, or money on a Century conversion.

The VZ58 is a little more accurate (with the original barrel) than the AK and it has a last round bolt hold open. Its also easy to strip down for cleaning. The VZ has a milled receiver but weighs about the same as an AK stamped receiver. They are every bit as good as an AK if not better.

I think you'll find the VZ is about a pound lighter (6.4lb). Locking open on the last round is really nice advantage as is the overall size and weight difference.

vz

The Vz is really a one of a kind rifle! I have had one for three years as well as an ak . I personally prefer the vz that just me though. Lighter and less recoil make it easier to stay on target. As far as durability it has been right there with my ak. It is superior to the ar 15. Hope this helps!

century problems

they have drunken sailors putting them together! Fit and finish are average at best they also are built from used parts. The run around 500 bucks so you might as well spend a a little more and get one from czechpoint. They are built way better and the recievers are from czech republic not built in the states

+1 on buying from Czechpoint.
I bought mine from them and they're a great company to deal with. Parts and accessories, while not as numerous as AK's, are not hard to find. Mines only two pieces of advice, one the stock forearm heats up easy...but I changed mine out. Two the used brass is really ejected with some force. At an indoor range I was shooting under a light with no guard over the bulb and the brass took it out. :D
Other than that, it's slightly more accurate than an AK and beyond easy to strip and clean. I prefer it to the AK, but still love my AR more. :)

Depends on who imported t.

Im almost certain czech point usa are the only ones have the correct vz.58 that doesnt have issues from being converted to semi

Czechpoint vz.58

After reading this thread on the VZ.58, I bought one for myself for my Birthday. I picked it up yesterday morning and the Czechpoint VZ.58 Sporter looked perfect and impressive. Can't wait to get to the range when it opens this spring. It looks good, handles great, built better than most AK, and is easily field stripped for cleanning. All in all a great Semi-Auto Carbine.

I've rented a couple at the local range. it's a little odd when you're already used to AKs because the controls are in different spots but overall I would rate them as good to very good. firing feels just like firing an AK, it's just mag changes and using the safety that gets funky.
