VZ 24 Mauser question

I just bought a VZ 24 (my first that wasn't a box of parts). Upon cleaning I discovered that the last 1.5" of the barrel appears to be counterbored to about .360. Is this common or do I have some odd ball? or did someone "experiment" on this rifle?

Counter-boring a muzzle is a way of salvaging a barrel that has had its muzzle ruined, probably an arsenal repair job and common on European rifles.

The proof is in the shooting, if you can get your rifle to shoot accurately then the counter bore did the trick.
