VP9 +P, +P+?

I cannot speak specifically to the vp9 but traditionally all HKs tend to be just fine with +p ammo. Honestly all the big makers especially European ones(9mm NATO and most euro 9mm tends to be a bit hotter than our 9mm not quite true +p but close) tend to be fine with +p ammo. HK tends to REALLY overbuild their guns. Like anything however it will accelerate wear.

+p+ is an unknown as it's not per say a true measured designation. It's just really hot. One maker might be a tad warmer then +p another might be damn near subgun only ammo so buyer beware.

Manual just says use quality factory loaded ammo.
That's not exactly what it says.

From Page 14, my emphasis underlined:
WARNING: HK specifically disclaims any responsibilities for any damage or injury that should occur because of, or as a result of, the use of faulty, remanufactured, or reloaded (hand loaded) ammunition, or of cartridges other than those for which the pistol was originally chambered for.

The HK VP9 pistol is designed to fire quality, factory-loaded ammunition, loaded to NATO or SAAMI (Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute) specifications for use specifically in handguns.
There is a SAAMI specification for 9mm+P, so the second paragraph effectively endorses +P in the VP9.

OTOH there is no SAAMI spec for +P+, so the first paragraph also effectively disclaims damage resulting from using +P+.

Interestingly, there is also no allowance for European ammo loaded to CIP specifications, so apparently HK wants you to avoid S&B, Geco, and RWS as well.

In case you didn't notice the first round of disclaimers, HK inserted a SECOND one...
NOTE: HK handguns are safe for use with new, high-quality U.S. factory ammunition manufactured to SAAMI specifications. For further information on ammunition selection, contact HK Customer Service at 706-568-1906, email: cs@heckler-koch-us.com.
I guess they REALLY don't want you to use +P+ or European ammo in this pistol.

BTW I'm not trying to be obnoxious, it's just that one often has to read between the lines to decipher gunmakers' ammo recommendations for 9mm pistols.

The RUAG ammo that German police use is loaded hotter than our +P.

My guess is because the pistol is marketed in the US that they excluded the CIP spec. None of the HK pistols I own have manuals that mention CIP, but I'm pretty sure they're used in Europe on occasion.

Frankly when it comes to ammo, use common sense. Reloads and +p+ ammo can be unknown factors. What's listed in the manual is to cover the company from a legal perspective, for all manufacturers. Try and shoot some crazy pressure round and the factory won't cover the damage.
