Voting question for GA residents

I registered to vote the day I turned 18... That was several years ago. Now, I really want to vote in November, but do I have to go BACK to the place that the card designates in order to vote? I live in downtown Atlanta now, but the card is for the place I used to go to in a different county. I'll certainly make the trek if need-be.

Thanx in Advance,
Ben

I don't know about Georgia law, but you need to reregister at your new location. Most states require this to be done by 30 days before the election. This may have expired, so you may need to vote in your old location, assuming that they have not already stricken you from the roles. Sometime they send out post cards, if the card gets returned to sender, they strike you from the roles.

Of course every state is different. Call your county election office or city hall.

Yes Ben, you will have to return to the area where you orignally registered to vote, unless you have your record updated. I have already obtained an absentee balot as it will not be possible for me to return "home" to vote. I suggest you consider doing the same as well.

Your County Clerk, or even better, County Supervisor of Elections can help. Last national election ('98) I went to my usual polling place and wasn't on the voters list! They made a call and was sent to a new polling place. I think I got notified, but just forgot. The point is that I had been reassigned to a new polling place without any action on my part.

Sorry I saw this so late. You could have gotten to the Kroger store and gotten your polling place changed to your current location but I believe that today was the last day. You can check tomorrow if this is so. One possibility is for you to use an absentee ballot. You can check with the library for the election contact in your area.
