Vortex Scopes

How are Vortex scopes for quality and clarity? Where are they made? I am considering replacing the poor quality Simmons 22Mag 3-9 on my .22LR rifle.

Thanks in advance.

Vortex Crossfire is made in China and is competitive with other Chinese scopes in the same price range.

Vortex Diamondback is made in the Philippines (as are various Burris, Nikon, Sightron, and others) and is competitive with scopes in its price range.

Vortex Viper is made in the Philippines and competes with various scopes in its price range, including scopes from the Philippines, Japan, and the U. S.

Weaver Rimfire (Japan) or Nikon Prostaff Rimfire (Philippines) should be a good step up from the Simmons.

One of the best low priced scopes I've found for the 22 is a Mueller APV 4-14x40, fairly large scope but super clear edge to edge in fact more clear then my Nikon Monarch, I paid $129 for the Mueller.

Vortex has a great line up of optics in every price range. The Razors are top quality optics and right up there with NF, USO, and Premier IMO.

Crossfire or Diamondback would be great choices.
I have a Viper and a Crossfire, and the Crossfire- inexpensive and Chinese though it is- is used on a long-range Mosin sporter for paper and steel at 300-600 yards. Holds zero perfectly and tracks true.

Vipers and Razors are great optics, but well beyond what you need for a .22 in terms of their capabilities. But hey, if ya got the $$, you sure won't be disappointed...

The only time you have to "sweat" something from China is if the "parts" are made in China. Most only have the scopes "assembled" in China which is not a big deal. I have had Mueller scopes (assembled in China on parts made in Japan) which are excellent scopes for the money.

I'll stick with Leupold. They've never given me a reason to switch brands.

Vortex is sourcing their products from the pac-rim region and haven't been in business long enough to demonstrate enough staying power when you compare them to Leupold.

This isn't to say they don't make decent scopes, but they do appear to be making a significant effort to appeal to the tacti-cool crowd.

Edited my last post ment Razors are up there with NF, USO, and Premier.

Leupold might have been in business longer, but until last year Leupold had been falling behind in the tactical market. Lack of FFP scopes with matching adjustments/reticles and on top of that glass that didn't equate the price range. It's kind of like the old mark 4s sure they work and their glass is good but they're outdated and the price is a little much IMO anyway. They've come back in the game in the last two year though.

The Razors are excellent scopes i've yet to find a bad review about one. Also vortex's customer service is top notch.

I've been thrilled with the Mueller APV on my 10/22, and I know of folks who have been happy with them on AR-15s as well. As wingman said, it's a larger scope, but very well-built with very clear (Japanese) glass. The adjustable objective is a big plus for a rimfire rifle as well, since parallax will not be an issue at shorter ranges.

It's a raging bargain at the $122 I spent for mine.

If being associated with the tacti-cool crowd means using the FFP reticle on my Viper PST for ranging and then adjusting the elevation turret without having to use a screwdriver or a penny, then I guess I am guilty of being tacti-cool.

I didn't get the "tacti-cool" comment, either...
That would be reserved for the NC Star scopes with built-in lights and lasers...:D

Mueller 4.5-14×40AO Tactical (it's an APV with target knobs instead of "use-a-coin" knobs)

Nikon P-22 3-7x32 BDC (has return-to-zero target knobs)
