VN vets, how much ammo?

During your tour in Nam, how much .223 ammo did you personally shoot up? I'm looking for a WAG on how much needed for two years of hostilities.

Well, if you're gonna hang around and get shot at, you're gonna die. You won't need any more ammo. If you're gonna shoot and scoot, two to five mags will do you--or you'll be dead. Same future ammo needs.

So, how many fire-fights are you going to be in, during your two years of funsies? Daily? Weekly? Monthly?

It's your scenario, not any NamVets or any other vet...

I understand that a protracted firefight will permit the other side to call in support and things will get very deadly, very fast. I also understand there will be many days without engagements if for no other reason that day after day fighting would exhaust personnel, supplies and equipment.

As to scenarios, danged if I can predict 'em. But the overall scenario is modern-day equivalent of an American Revolution and/or Civil War. Look at the problem from the viewpoint of a supply officer. How much ammo would ten guys need for two years? This is given they have to rely on themselves, but I also understand that opportunities may arise to obtain weapons and ammunition from raids.

if you shot 5, 30 round mags a day,
a thousand rounds per week sounds about right

or 52,000 rounds / annum
thats 6 to 10k bucks of ammo per year

better stock up on barrels!
