Visual and interactive gun comparison website

When I was looking for a CCW gun, I ended up trying to compare guns to eachother. Eventually I got the LCP. It gave me the idea to make an web application to proportionately and visually compare guns to eachother. Check it out and let me know what you think! :)

Interesting app - well written code.

I compared the ruger .380 to the ruger lightweight .38. I was surprised at how much bigger the .38 was.

I had looked at both in stores and had not realized that difference.

Great application. Good interface.

What was it written in?

Neat stuff. If you upgraded it to 3D, it'd be the bees knees.

You might also want to add some notes regarding the source(s) of pictures and specifications.

I dont recall seeing it, but a reset button would be nice to move the two pics back to their original settings.

Also, I noticed the pic on the Sig P250c was reversed, slide lock and take down lever on right side, as well as lettering backwards. I believe I understand why it's like this though.

Thanks for the comments! I made it using Flash Actionscript 2, it took around a month to get everything nice.

You can reset it by clicking anywhere on the background and choosing "stack horizontal". You can also click menu again.

I would love to have it in 3D but that would mean I would have to borrow or own every gun on the list to scan using a 3D scanner. That would be a fortune instead of grabbing free photos on the web :)

Very cool, very useful tool. I can't wait to see more and more firearms added. I put this in my Favorites "reference" file.

Very very nice.

Your website looks better than 90% of the manufacturers'.

Their websites should look like yours :o.

Really good job on your site! I for one will come back often to see new additions, and hope you have good luck finding more.

Well it's been a long time but I have worked really hard on the site. I now have over 1000 guns with images, not all perfect of course. You can do an advanced gun search, list manufacturers by their logo and show all the different calibers. More options to be added later. I hope it's useful to people, please check it out!

I just dropped in there, I have been too busy to get there for awhile, and I have to say WOW!, great job on the site!

Cool little site. I don't know if it has it or not because I'm using my iPhone to view it but a simple spot to type in the name of two different guns would be ideal.

Example:

(Type In Gun A) vs. (Type in Gun B) <search button>

(S&W 442) vs. (Taurus 85UL) <COMPARE>

searching datbase........

Then the info shows up side by side.

If it already does this (and it assumedly does in the area where all I can see is
an empty box with a blue cube) I apologize for wasting everyone's time.

Like I said I'm using my iPhone and Apple doesn't support Flash Applications. Perhaps that is another suggestion is to make in Apple friendly or have a simplified mobile version.

Also, I would eliminate the things that are not specs from the manufacturer (like on the LCP. "It says this gun is based on Kel-Tec P-3AT.") Even though the statement is IMHO true, the people at Ruger would probably disagree. Right or Wrong, the statement is irrelevant and should not be included with the spec information. Basically, it should be simply unbiased non questionable factory spec information.

I like that you can see a quick 1-5 scale rating and user reviews of the guns. However, it would be better if it just show the 1-5 satisfaction icon ayouths you must click a "Read Comments" button to read them.

Example:
(Pic of Gun)
(Factory Specs.)
(1-5 icons) <Read Comments Button>

The site looks very professional and I hope it is a success for you. And like I said if any or all of my suggestions are already usable features that I can't access with my iPhone, I apologize.

Lastly, you could add a line with links to the other similar guns at the end of the info lines.

Example:
(Pic of gun)
(Factory Specs)
(1-5 icons) <Read Comments Button>
Others in this Catagory: (Gun X with link), (Gun Y with link, (Gun z with link)

Overall, the site looks wonderful. Better than MANY of the other popular gun websites including some of the manufacturers.

Thanks for your suggestions and ideas. I'm thinking up a way so u can easily compare just two guns. Not sure if just typing it in would work because most likely it would not be able to exactly match one of them by name. I have a few ideas I'll try to implement in a week or two. I know some people went in and thought it was just a gun store, I link back to my friend's site but it is not a gun store. Here is a good example of its use, here is the Ruger LCP verse the Ruger LCR:

Use the mouse and keyboard to zoom and drag, guns are proportionately sized with specs:

Simple lineup, again guns are proportionately sized:
