virus in Emails

Just a heads up, I received a number of Emails about the "Murdering Cops" thread going on a while back. Most were ok, but the ones that really stood out were a group of 5 from various Hotmail accounts that threatened all sorts of extreme mayhem and violence. No big deal, it's just some fruitloop showing his true colors. One however, from "torx" contained something called the KAKWORM virus. Judging from the rambling and repeated comments about God, abortion, cops, and racist comments, all I read came from the same individual. I lost the other messages and addresses when Norton kicked in. Subject line on the virus message was "murder pigs" Watch out for it in your mail, it may automatically send itself out to those of you I have in my address book.

Thanks for the heads up Enfield. I know I'm one of the people whom you've exchanged Email with here on TFL as well as several others I'm sure.
Have you reported this nut to.....whom ever it is that nuts sending viruses get reported to?

Report it to the domain the email came from. If it was Hotmail, report to webmaster@hotmail.com.

You can also report viruses to the Computer Emergency Response Team at http://www.cert.org or check their website to see if it's a known virus and what the fix is.

The kak worm doesn't do too much harm but it does interfere with a lot of stuff.
Norton Anti Virus will find it and isolate it and finally destroy it.
I got it in an email.
If u get an email from anyone who has the kak worm virus, it is pretty certain that it is on your machine.
Getting an anti virus program is easier than all the registry changes otherwise.
It is an insidious virus and I got it from someone I know and communicate with all the time. It spreads easily.

We have been slammed here at the office the last two days by an ILOVEYOU type virus. The original email came in marked 'FBI Whitehouse Report'. It has corrupted and disabled many of our servers. Just delete the attachments and no problem.

With the Kak and Trojan, you don't have to have an attachment it can be contained in the body of the message just clicking on it to deleate it can activate it. Several anti viruses software are available on line free to rid yourself and detect any more trying to into your machine.

Really? Just deleting an email (never opening or reading it) with Kaj or Trojan can infect your PC? I had heard of this once before (didn't know whether to believe it since it was on a gun board), but read that the virus that was able to do this was possible, but would be a 1,000,000:1 longshot of ever being created.

Is this really of any realistic, practical concern to the internet? I'd really like to know.

Yeah, the KAKworm will get you just by rcving it. You don't even have to have it up on your screen any longer than to hit "delete". I got PC-cillan from Trend systems over the net and it stopped all spread from me outwards until the thing was gone. Really, Really annoying bug. IOt reads you address directory and some versions send it out to commercial businesses to make up their spam lists. Got mine from some Canuck corp that was trying to sell web services.
