Violent Crime and Gun laws-stats

Does anyone know where I can find a state-by-state summary of violent crime rates, and the corresponding level of restriction on self defense? Ideally the info would be in a handy table already, but if not, I can put the info together and run some comparisons in Excel. There have been many case by case comparions here, but I have yet to see a nation wide summary.

I wish they'd break it down by city...

the overwhelming majority of the problem here in Nevada is....are you surprised?.....Las Vegas.

Yup, the only place in Nevada that went for Gore....
 
I dunno about stats, but where I live I have witnessed quiet a few "violent criminal acts". Or atleast have been around the area to hear of them from the cops looking for the suspect. I also noticed that in EVERY case the perp IS armed! Mean while us lowely peacefull citizen (read subject), are fobidden the means to protect ourselves from these scum-bags. (There is CCW in my State but it is NEVER issused, unless of course you are part of the government!)

A disarmed populace is a great mass target of opportunity, NOT only for criminals, but also or the government.
 
Although it doesn't give state by state information, John Lott Jr.'s book "More Guns, Less Crime" is a very good book with tons of info of the sort you seem to be looking for.
