We've all been hearing about Fox's threats and posturing over the "plight" of illegal aliens from our Southern Border. To hear him talk, it's a huge game. If the illegal can get into America, we owe him citizenship, and full rights as a citizen.
Well, one would think that such statements would come from the leader of a country where this is the norm, wouldn't we? After all, only experience with such a system could validate it. Guess again.
Vincente Fox presides over a government that bans non-natives from the presidency, vice-presidency, and thousands of other jobs, even if they are naturalized citizens. In Mexico, foreign born nationals are banned from the congress. They are also banned from state legislatures, the Supreme Court, and all governorships. Many state legislatures also ban foreign-born Mexicans from town council spots. The Mexican Constitution reserves almoat all federal posts, and any position in the military and merchant marine for "native born Mexicans." Since at least 2003, the Mexican government has urged cities to ban non-natives from such jobs as firefighters, police, and judges.
Mexico grants citizenship to about 3000 people per year. A quote from David Kim, president of the Mexico-Korean Assoc. points out that "The immigration laws are very difficult...and they put obstacles in the way that make it very difficult to compete."
Surprisingly enough, the most recent change to Mexico's laws was to allow a person who has one foreign-born parent to run for president. Guess who benefited from that little change? Even that, though, is limited. Several other Mexican states require that both parents be native-born to run for the legislature.
So, if we were to emulate the immigration laws, and constitution of Mexico, we would be open to a law-suit from the Mexicans? Mr. Fox needs to sit down, shut-up, and mind to his own people's welfare. Maybe then, they'd like to stay at home. :barf:
