Video - Shooting the Winchester model 1886 Rifle

Two thumbs' up, Mike! I especially liked your explanation of the difference between the two different actions. That was really a sea change in lever action rifles, I think. And it looked like a kick in the pants, shooting that big ol' cartridge.

I've never commented on your vids before, but should have.
They are always excellent, very well made videos. In image quaility and content, good work.

One thing I like so much about your videos is the lack of the "creep" factor that so many gun videos, and Youtube videos have actually. They are hard to watch because the guy on them is just creepy, or they are poorly made, poorly lite, poor sound. There are some people that shouldn't be on TV.
I did TV in my younger years and understand a little bit about how they are supposed to look and sound. Also love your costumes, very well done.

What many fail to understand is that "doing TV" is a lot more complicated than they might think. There's more to it than just grabbing a camara and making up dialogue while the camara is running.
Good job, keep up the good work, and sorry for being so late.

Just saw this post and this video. As usual a stellar effort.

I also liked the comparison of the different actions.

I actually own an original 1886 rifle, but it's chambered in .40-82 which is a bit harder to find than .45-70. I have no idea where my grandfather got this rifle, nor why it's not chambered in .45-70.

I'm still working on scratching up the cash to buy the dies to load for it. :)
 
i have a question. what exactly is the difference between a 45-70, a 45-90, 45-82, etc?

also .32-40, .44-40's, are they denotd differently for the same reasons as the cartridges i mentioned above?
 
The 2nd number generally denotes how much black powder that the cartridge was designed to be loaded with.
That doesn't mean that the cases are the same in every other respect but they can be.
