Part IV - evolution, machine production and interchangeability of parts & barrel design
This popped up on U-toob. Continuation from episode 3. Talks about Whitworth and his contribution of making precision measurements and designing machines, Metford, the move from individual craftsmen to industrialized production, barrel designs, etc.
Very British in perspective and they feel the Adams was a strong design (top strap) and the Colt Peacemaker by British standards a weak one. They think the swing out cylinder of later Colts & S&W are "OK" but that the Webley was superior.
These videos were produced in 1976 and which revolver designs endure today? Who makes top break revolvers as opposed to solid frame today? S&W, Colt, Ruger, Manurhin.
Mind you, I like Webleys myself and the video calls the Webley Fosbery was the zenith of revolver development.
OK, I decided to find the rest of the series. By the time you finish you should receive one credit at TFL University on Basic Firearms Introduction. You'll have to send in boxtops for your certificate though.
