Video of Rugers MK IV

He said that he used a "Ransom rest" and I can believe his claim . The ransom takes the human element out of the shot.

I really like the way this model field strips. I have a MK II that I love but I hate to take it apart.

I do admit this looks like a huge improvement. Not enough to make me ditch my Mk II Target.

I agree on both points the breakdown looks so much easier. I guess I'll wait for some feedback from the early adopters, but either way I'll probably just stick with my old Mark II Government Target.

I have one of the Ruger Mark IV Hunter versions on order from Ruger's largest distributor. Now, why in the world would anyone think they need to "ditch" their Ruger Mark II for this version? I still have every Ruger Mark/Standard pistol that I purchased since 1969, and they're all FUN to shoot. Always room in the safe for one more Ruger Mark.

As soon as the Ruger Mark IV comes into my shop, the grips come off and it goes into this contraption for accuracy testing.

Do I expect any inaccuracy issues...........................NOPE!

SGW I know you are very knowledgeable about Marks from this and other forums. Would appreciate you sharing any opinions on the IV once you receive one.

Although I would never sell any of my older ones,I can't wait to give one of these a try.

I plan to keep my Mk III just so my children can go through the rite of passage that is disassembling and reassembling one.

The take down does look pretty cool but I would rather have a steel grip frame on the blued version.

^^^^ I agree with that. :D Though there's only the two versions being marketed at this time, I can't help but think that more variations will follow. I'd like to see a two-tone version with a stainless steel grip frame and a well blued upper with the 6-7/8ths slab side barrel. Gonna be interesting to see how this model sells................and there's no DANG LCI involved.

LCI

My Mk. 3 Hunter was a jam o matic.....until I disabled the LCI.

Really easy to do, and a night and day difference in operation.

Thank goodness Ruger got rid of the LCI. You can disable the mag disconnect with a bushing, so the MKIV should be a great .22.

In the video I saw, he was shooting offhand. Doing pretty good, too! If I were just getting my first .22lr pistol, the new Mark iv would be very tempting. Hopefully, I'd know enough to see merit in the new design.

However, I'm a target shooter and very few mfg.'s offer a really good trigger in their basic pistol, in that price range. Ruger included. In fact, Plinkster commented about the Mark iv trigger.

Give the aftermarket some time and we'll see some nice stuff for the Mark iv. Meanwhile, I'm hoping the Mark iii Hunter will drop some in price. It would be a great companion to my Mark ii Government Target, Mark iii's- Target, Competition Target and TALO Hunter.

I shot my Mark ii on Thursday. Extremely accurate gun, much better than I am. I shot one 5 round group of 1/2" dia. (the other 85 shots weren't as good), offhand at 15 yards using a C-More red dot. My Hammerli Xesse Sport with a C-More and my S&W Model 41 with an Ultradot can do better, especially if fired by a better shooter.

I've done a ton of trigger work on the Ruger Mark pistols over the years for competitive shooters. Shortening "take-up" and "over-travel" of the trigger and providing 2 ½ pound, safe, pull weight has helped many of the owners shoot better scores.
My Government Target and my Mark II Competition Target both have steel triggers that are adjustable and pull weight at 2 ½ to 2 ¾ pounds.

Am I the only person who thinks dis and reassembling the Mark Series is really no big deal? It may take a minute or two longer than say, a Glock, but who cares?

Having said that, the Mark IV does look to have some nice improvements.

That minute or two could be the difference between life and death.

Have you ever had to face a pack of rabid hares?? When your Mk III jams up right when the hares are coming in thick, you'll wish like hell that you had a Mk IV!! :D
