Veteran's Day Salute at high school

Today the local High School invited all the area vets to come and be honored. It was really nice. They had speeches, Cheers, music and played Echoed Taps for those not here. They even had a reception with cake and coffee afterward for the vets and their families. All of the vets were brought out to introduce themselves by name, Service and era. First time I've been applauded in a long time. Really made us feel good. Just wanted to tell about how proud I was to see that some of the kids understand what it takes to stay free. BTW, the kids organized this all on their own, not the administration. Even better!

As we gear ourselves up to celebrate all veterans on the eve of the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles. I just wanna say, "Thank you" to all of the VETS.

No special plans here in Oregon. The U of O (I think) ROTC is doing something but the cities of eugene and springfield could care less. I would have liked to see a vet parade (met allot of them, that has/have seen more then I will, at the local VA clinic). Vets now days are looked upon as Janitors.. I've just had the luck to fall into both catagories. Clean up the mess and we (the customer) won't complain, or give credit, until you screw up. You know, I still get teary eyed at Taps, Retreat, and still get "energy" at reville. I love my country, but I am very (VERY) dissipointed in it. I spent 11 years under an oath. I lived by it and I continue to live by it. But that oath means nothing.. congress, senate, the pres. takes an oath, but it means nothing to them. Long live freedom, for I am willing to die for that simple concept.

Oregon State University had an outstanding POW/MIA ceremony today with a missing man drill by the Air Force ROTC cadets, a speech by an Army Brig. General, and then they read the names of the 43 Oregon Vets that are either POW or MIA followed by a 21 gun salute and the playing of taps. Little bit of excitement though when one of the cadets passed out and fell down a stairway.
