Very odd Winchester 94 Serial Number

I have been searching for an answer as to the serial number on a 94 I got from my father after his death. The serial number is L291780. I had sent the number to the Winchester Museum in Cody and they couldn't come up with an answer. I know that the gun was bought for my dad in the early fifties, used. I have no other information other than it is a pre-64 with the screw exposed and it does have a round barrel. Any throughts?

If the 1st digit is tuely an L, then the gun was made in 1904, as the Winchester date guide doesn't accept letters and the numbers date to 1904. You've got a real antique if it's that old.

Need some good clear pictures of the gun and the markings on it. The various markings will really tell the story.

For instance, how is the cartridge it's chambered for marked on the gun?

FWIW, the pics are useful in rough dating, because of the known/documented changes Winchester variously made to receiver tang & barrel stampings, hammers, and pre-64 receiver configs among other things like sights.
