Having just bought a revolver, I am looking around for more information on them, and after some fair hunting, have found these two real nice revolver overviews.
The first one is from "Howstuffworks.com" and gives a better appreciation of the operation of the internal mechanisms, since they also include two animated diagrams of the action parts well, in action

The second one is from what is always my first stop for information on the web, wikipedia, and it is more encyclopedic in nature, with plenty of background information, etc:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolver
...including for instance a link to the predecessor, the Pepperbox:
Enjoy!
