Very happy with T/C Icon Classic acquisition

Recent thread inspired me to get this rifle.

Received it today - Looks great. Got a really nice price (usually I'm the one getting hosed on gun deals). Beauty of a rifle. Someone won it at an NRA banquet type deal or some such then unloaded it for a few hundred to a WI gun shop while still NIB. Now just need to move to Wisconsin, for it to make sense. :)

There's something just so fine and nearly-perfect about the "classic-ness" of this rifle; a goldilocks rifle; not too nice to hunt with, but very nice. Built like a tank, but not too heavy. Wood & blued. Oozes quality. 3 recoil lugs into an aluminum bedding block, 5R rifling. Certified sub-MOA. The chambering on this one (.30-'06) is also a goldilocks one -super versatile. The somewhat-intricate machining that it took to make this receiver with integral scope mounts, bolt release, bolt, & bolt parts is just reminiscent of much more expensive rifles like Sako, etc. No plastic to be found. Steel hinged floorplate, steel trigger guard, etc.

To say that them being discontinued is a shame is the understatement of the decade. Proof that people don't want to pay for top quality these days. The T/C Dimension surviving (so far) but this one not is proof we live in a bizarro world. (Don't get me wrong, the Dimension is a quality rifle, but you lose the Contender/Encore basic philosophy when the scope isn't rigidly attached to (SOLELY) the barrel IMO, and then there's the plastic stock & detachable mags - ugh.)

Anyhow, glad to get my hands on it. Gonna put a Nikon Monarch 2-8x32 or a Nikon Omega 3-9x40 on it in Warne Maximas. Going on an controlled elk cow hunt in December - may use it; in fact likely will - one of two final candidate rifles for that hunt. Or may gift it to family member who wants to hunt but cannot afford a gun. Or may gift it AFTER the elk hunt. Not sure yet.

OK, holler if you want more pics.

Don't gift it just yet!
I have one in 308, they're incredibly accurate. I came up with a hand load that it likes and it'll easily shoot dime sized groups at 100 yards, provided I do my part.
I'm taking mine down to TX for dear season this year. Normally I use my old sporterized '03, but this year I want to use the Icon.

Nice. I had an OMA (Original Medium action) in .243 and it was nice, but ultimately couldn't stand the detachable mag. Almost as good as the classic, though. :)

Hey right now there's a NIB Icon Classic in .270 on GB if anyone wants it - the only classic one on there - I bid $437 but didn't hit the reserve yet, so gave up but.....

Shot the new Icon Classic today.... wow, it's a keeper. Even with cheap ammo (Rem. Express 165 core-lokts), got a 3 shot group of about 1 MOA (7/8ths" at 87 yards) - but two of the three were essentially the same hole (2/3rds overlap), with the third shot 7/8ths" away. This was with a Redfield Revolution 3-9x40.

This bad boy has potential.

Very nice rifle you have there. I bought my first venture this year on impulse and its a real joy to shoot as well as carry. Seems very robust and well made. Mine is a 7mm-08 compact I topped with a leupold 2-7 will be my stalking rifle this deer season. Shoots 5 into a quarter at my 125 yard backyard range with cheap hornady 139 grain factory ammo. Only thing I ran into was I tried to lighten the trigger pull just a touch but it was already maxed out in that direction. Not the end of the world its still great for a hunting rifle :)

Thank you upstate.... the more I handle and shoot the Icons, the more I like them.

I just put (arguably) the best scope I've ever owned on it, a new Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40mm with green triangle-post, with Leupold PRW rings. It's just.... perfect. This is gonna be an elk-slaying mo-sheen after I move to a Western Rocky mountain state next spring!

Actually, first I'll use it on a cow elk hunt this December that I drew in for, to warm it up for a big bull later in life. I'll die happy if I can harvest a 350 bull or a 300 with archery equip.

Three years ago, when I worked for Sportsman's Warehouse, they discontinued the Icons - originally priced @ $969.99, they were marked down to $750, then a final blowout @ $400. The final reduction was on my day off, and when I got back, they were all gone except one single .308 that was on hold for a customer. He never came back back for it, so I picked it up... I have yet to put a round through it. :o

Yes, the TC Icons are great rifles. I saw one when they first hit the market about 8-10 years ago and was impressed to say the least. And they do shoot well!

Beautiful, nice pick up! I have two Icons, both synthetics. Only criticism I can muster is they never made a lefty. On the bright side, the stocks are ambidextrous- no silly cheek rests. Not crazy about DBMs, but love the Icons otherwise.
