Recent thread inspired me to get this rifle.
Received it today - Looks great. Got a really nice price (usually I'm the one getting hosed on gun deals). Beauty of a rifle. Someone won it at an NRA banquet type deal or some such then unloaded it for a few hundred to a WI gun shop while still NIB. Now just need to move to Wisconsin, for it to make sense.
There's something just so fine and nearly-perfect about the "classic-ness" of this rifle; a goldilocks rifle; not too nice to hunt with, but very nice. Built like a tank, but not too heavy. Wood & blued. Oozes quality. 3 recoil lugs into an aluminum bedding block, 5R rifling. Certified sub-MOA. The chambering on this one (.30-'06) is also a goldilocks one -super versatile. The somewhat-intricate machining that it took to make this receiver with integral scope mounts, bolt release, bolt, & bolt parts is just reminiscent of much more expensive rifles like Sako, etc. No plastic to be found. Steel hinged floorplate, steel trigger guard, etc.
To say that them being discontinued is a shame is the understatement of the decade. Proof that people don't want to pay for top quality these days. The T/C Dimension surviving (so far) but this one not is proof we live in a bizarro world. (Don't get me wrong, the Dimension is a quality rifle, but you lose the Contender/Encore basic philosophy when the scope isn't rigidly attached to (SOLELY) the barrel IMO, and then there's the plastic stock & detachable mags - ugh.)
Anyhow, glad to get my hands on it. Gonna put a Nikon Monarch 2-8x32 or a Nikon Omega 3-9x40 on it in Warne Maximas. Going on an controlled elk cow hunt in December - may use it; in fact likely will - one of two final candidate rifles for that hunt. Or may gift it to family member who wants to hunt but cannot afford a gun. Or may gift it AFTER the elk hunt. Not sure yet.
OK, holler if you want more pics.
