Does anybody have a picture of a Robinson VEPR K .223? See, I'm on Christmas break right now, and don't have anything to do but muse about which guns I want.

I'd like an M96 Recon Carbine. But saving up for it, though possible, would take awhile and even an ardent gun nut like me has a hard time justifying $1600.00 on ONE gun right now. (When I get my inheritance in a year and a half, all bets are off).

The VEPR II is available for less than $600.00. THe magazines are cheap for the .223 version, and I'm already very familiar with the AK action.

I prefer carbines in intermediate cartridges, though. Does anybody have a picture of a VEPR K/.223 I could look at, so I know what it is I'm musing about?

Is that the only difference? THe barrel length? That's what I figured, but wasn't sure if the handguards were different or something like that. Anyway, I finally found a pic of one over at AK-47.net. I like the looks of the 20" better. More "balanced" looking. Besides, 20" is a nice length for a rifle barrel. Short enough OAL for CQB work*, long enough for good muzzle velocity.

*For those of you that think you NEED a 16", 14", or 10" barreled rifle for Close Quarters, I submit that the Marines have been using 20" barreled shotguns for house-clearing for years. The shotgun has the same overall length as an M16A2. The 4" in barrel length really doesn't make the weapon that much more handy, IMO.
