I purchased a new Vepr K on Wed.
This has got to be the best looking AK that I have seen. The finish is nice. The finish on the internals looked good, and the action was smooth.
I like the Vepr II style stock. It is thick and solid. The length of pull is longer than a standard AK and I found it to be much nicer to shoot.
The trigger is military style, there is some take up, and then the actual pull is good. Not really light, but nicer than most military style rifles that I've shot (with the exception of a tuned M1A).
The gun is heavier than a regular AK, but it balanced well with the carbine length barrel.
I'm visiting relatives, so I shot at the small informal range in Delta Utah. The 100 yard range was really muddy, so no targets were set at 100. I'm afraid that I can't give a good indication of group size. I will do more serious accuracy testing when I have the chance, but I have no doubt that this gun can shoot.
Shooting offhand at 50 yards, the gun was easily minute of pop can.
There is no muzzle break on the Vepr K, but I don't think it needs one. The recoil is mild, and it is easily controllable even firing rapidly. I'm not a MB fan anyway. I don't think they are really neccesary on black rifles, and they make the guns louder.
There were 0 malfunctions in 200 rounds of Wolf. I would have shot more, but I had to save some for tonight. The county is paying a bounty on coyotes this month, so I have to go forth and do my civic duty.
I've never been very much of an AK fan. I started out with AR15s and then moved to a FAL. I still prefer the ergonomics and power of the FAL, but there is a lot to be said for a short handy rifle that can shoot ammo that sells for $90 (or less) a case.
I picked mine up for $469. I'm very impressed with this gun, and I'm looking forward to giving it a good work out.
