Venting Forearm (Misc. Stock Work)

I recently bought a savage model 12 BVSS. I am always tinkering with things I buy and recently got the idea of venting the forearm, more for just being different than helping it cool faster. I plan on using a router but if there is a better idea i am open to it. Any info would be appreciated. I was also thinking about playing around with the grip, losing the left hand palm swell and possibly putting light grooves for my fingers as well as possibly modifying the right side flute to fit my thumb better but that will be a future project. I also recently free floated a barrel and was wondering what the best way to seal the barrel channel is. Thanks for the input.

For venting a forearm I'd use a drill press and rest the top of the forearm against a sqared stop. This way you can drill all the way through both sides with a slightly undersized bit. Then go clean them up with a larger bit but drill both sides from the face to reduce splintering.

If you have access to a mill you can cut the vents with a long end mill. Don't forget to turn the speed up high.
