Velocity: Lead In A 44 Mag.

Shooting 240 gr. hard-cast lead alloy in a Ruger SBH 10 1/2" barrel. Cranked to about 1550 fps. The groups are decent, and the fouling is tolerable.

So how fast do you think we can push a good hard-cast, lead alloy bullet? Oregon Laser Cast claims "excellent accuracy at jacketed velocities."

Greetings from Anchorage, funny ya mentioned Laser Cast since the last batch we got from them sucked! 9mm and .452 300gners both are leading badley when they were'nt before. Maybe the ran out of silver? What's yer load for 1500fps? That's about what the old S&W blue box ammo gave. henry

The last batch of laser cast 240's I shot leaded the hell out of my barrel. This was over a year ago. I have since began casting my own using straight wheelweights and RCBS lube and get practically no lead fouling at all thru 50 rounds.

I'm loading 24 gr. Hodgdon H110 and 240 LSWC, Federal magnum large pistol primer. Right out of the Hodgdon book (#26, 1994). It rates 1548 for jacketed in a seven inch barrel. I'm shooting in a 10 1/2" Ruger SBH.

I wonder if less velocity would tighten the groups.

Try www.bull-x.com for better bullets.

Use W296. How fast do you want it to go? (Got a 300g LFP to go 1800fps from my 5.5" Redhawk. One shot only though...LOL...then needed a big hammer to get the cylinder open...LOL)(gun has never been the same)
