Velocity Help

Hey guys,

I need to find the muzzle velocity, approximately, without a chronograph. Is there a software?

I have all other relative data

208gr. Hornady Amax
78gr H1000
24" barrel

The round was developed as a slightly cheaper, more accurate version, and more available version of the new Army/Navy Mk 248 Mod 1.

I haven't been able to find the load data for it. We did the 10% short work up for safety and this load is quite light for my custom rifle. Need it to complete my ballistics software.

I'm thinking that calculating with software is not going to be anywhere near as close as using a chronograph. There are always guys at our range that have them set and if you ask them if they will fire your gun through it they usually will. Don't fire it yourself. If you hit their chrony your gonna owe them money.... ;)

Speed

A half good crono is around 90 to 100 bucks if your going to work up load it's kind of a gotta have tool. Pretty sure most folks here will agree with me. It's a sure way to get your loads where you need them before you blow yourself up. cause it doesn't take much.

According to my loading manuals 77 gr (max load) will get a 200 gr bullet to about 2826 fps in a 300 win mag. In another manual they show a max load of 79 gr and a 200 gr bullet at 2883 fps. I don't have any sources showing a 208 gr bullet. This is as close as I can get.

These are just guestimate as every rifle is different. You really do need a chronograph to know for sure. I've seen 2 different rifles with equal barrel lengths have 130 fps difference with ammo from the same box.
