Vektor CP1

Does anyone here have any experience with this pistol? I was chedking 1 out last weekend and thought it was pretty nice. Seems like a good candidate for a CCW back-up in a pocket or ankle holster.

Vector had an ad in one of the NRA magazines which says that these guns can fire if you drop them. Currently there is no fix available, so they say not to send the guns back until they figure out what to do about it.

Saw the same ad...

I'd definitely stay AWAY from the Vektor. Not very re-assuring to hear "we can't fix it, so don't send it back, just unload it and don't use it till we figure it out"!!!

Please look elsewhere for a carry pistol! (might I suggest the Kahr P9?)

I have a cp-1, and I may say its a very dependable weapon. I took and primed several brass cases to test mine. I dropped it on the floor from 5 feet and it DID NOT go off. I tried it 6 times at 5 ft and 4 times and 8 ft never did go off. Can't say this won't happen with them but mine did not go off. I did this on a hardwood floor, my wife was pis***. I knicked the floor :(
as they say " don't try this at home" :)

Doesn't surprise me!

This gun has a BAD reputation for duribility. The safety looks like it was engineered by a bad lawyer.

If you got one my advice is that it's a range gun only...

This is a very well made gun. Mine is comparable in workmanship to my Sig, H&K, Colt, etc... Mine had the nicest looking, and most highly polished, chamber I ever saw.

Very comfortable and accurate. With a little better trigger it would give my HK P-7 a run for it's money. After a short break in period it is very reliable.

The durability issue was caused by a misprint in their literature that was repeated by a couple of gun writers, but it has been corrected. It should last as long as any similar pistol. This gun has been made in S. Afica for 3-4 years.

The unique safety is not so "unusual" if you've ever fired or carried an M1A, M-14 or Mini-14. Just takes a little getting used to like any other different pistol like the aformentioned P-7. Actually, the way it works, anytime you re-holster the pistol the safety goes on!

I spoke with Vektor and they are in the process of setting up a warrenty repair service here in the USA for fixing any problems. I heard the incidents were isolated and Vektor was unsure of the cause.

It would not be my first choice for a carry pistol, but don't snub it because of bad PR.
It's a little to big for pocket or ankle carry anyway ;)

That reputation may be based on what Vektor claims was a misprint in the owner's manual, which stated that the gun's service life was about 5,000 rounds. They have since stated that this was wrong and the service life should be many times that round count, and about the the same as any other quality gun given reasonable care.

One acquaintance who has contacted Vektor about the recall says the problem is associated with the safety, which doesn't function properly.

The design, despite it obvious external difference, uses the same basic system as the H&K P7/P13, without a squeeze cocker. (Gas retarded blowback?)

I read a test on the Vector and the big complaint was that the gun had to be cleaned frequently in order to function properly. I clean my guns every time I use them but If I should have to use them while they are dirty I should not have to wonder if it will fire or not.

The other thing I don't like about the Vector is it looks like they got their design from a 13yr old. IMHO a gun should not look like a child's toy.

It would make a nice gun to collect though.

FYI, the Vektor company is in deep crap. Lots of corruption - the company is up for sale, and the management has already scuttled one deal because they thought (probably correctly) that the buyer would install new management.

The SA government is all over this whole deal.

If you want one, this may be your last chance to get it.
