Vehicle guns

I have read in another thread that many people have guns that are dedicated to their truck or car 24/7. I would like to have a dedicated glove box gun, but am affraid of it rusting with the changing temps from night to day and all of those types of variables. What kind of gun, and finish of that said gun, do you keep in your vehicle and does it get rusted? I would hate to put one of my guns in the car and have it rust.

I bought a well-used SW Model 10 once for this purpose. Then, after careful consideration, decided against it because of potential theft concerns. Plus, I just carry a handgun with me. If I'm going where I can't carry concealed, then I'll leave it in the car. It narrows the window of opportunity down quite a bit. I'm fortunate to live in a state that allows concealed license holders to leave a weapon in the car even when on school property and similar places.

I had a Colt SF IV stainless that was my vehicle gun. Never rusted. After I left it unlocked one night I quit leaving it in my car. Lucky that it was there the next morning. Lot of car break In's now days. So be safe and take the gun out at night.

Taurus Judge

I like my Taurus Judge 3" Stainless for truck carry. Loaded with 000 buck, it'll get the attention of anyone tring to do harm to you or your family.:D

I've got a Glock 17 that stays in the console of my truck 24/7. Unless I'm out at the farm, then the Mini-14 rides in the truck as well between me and the center console.

BTW: If you have a Mini, you know how bad they throw brass. So if you shoot it from inside your truck, have it angled so it doesn't throw the brass into your front windshield.....it'll shatter a windshield purdy good. :o

Mine is a PA-63. With the aluminum frame there are fewer parts to rust. They are dependable and are a deal at around $150.

XD

Even in hot/humid Texas, I have kept and carried XD 9/45s on my person and for extended periods in the console/trunk of my vehicle. So long as I do my part and clean a couple of times each year, or after each use (usually more often than that), no problems w/rust.

First off, I would never keep a gun in a glove box 24/7 unless it was a locking and reinforced glove box insert. I installed a safe in my truck to keep my gun inside.

That being said, this is one of the wonderful things about stainless steel and polymer. They are pretty darn resistant to wear and weather. Which is why I chose the Springer XD-45c with OD polymer frame and stainless slide as my truck gun.

A little wipe down every now and then of the metal parts, along with a good lubing, and the gun can hadle most anything nature throws at it.

I also made sure to line my safe with moisture resistant foam to keep down the risk of pitting or rust. :)

Ya must be 100s of 1000s guns in glove boxes, under seats no big deal unless you park "in the hood" than even Playboypenquens "Safebox" wont mater.:rolleyes::

A stainless .357 Revolver should work well for you. Just remember to give it a light coat of oil. They're stain-less not stain-proof.

grumpybutt, your post is so right. The theft technique`s in the 'hood' can actually be studied and learned from. Although a great product the development of high speed/ torque battery operated handtools have there downfalls:rolleyes:

I have a 45 LC revolver in my truck all the time stored in a safe just like PP. It also has a box of ammo and moisture absorber.
