Varmint loads for an EBR..

...or MSR to be PC. I have a garden variety AR in the standard 5.56x45 that shoots 1" groups with Sierra 55's over TAC. I'm thinking to load some Nosler 40's that are left over from 22-250 days and actually hunt varmints (the 4-legged kind) with it. Any experience, good or bad, to share? This rifle has a 1:9 twist.

BTW, I see that my native Pennsylvania is seriously considering lifting the prohibition on semi-auto rifles for hunting. That ban has been in place forever, and is less of an anti-gun thing than a brake on the, "As long as there's lead in the air, there's hope" guys.

I shoot the 40 gr Nosler BT's in my bolt gun, which has a 1 in 9 twist. They shoot great, though they should with what I spent on the high dollar barrel and action tuneup. The 55 gr Nosler BT's seem to shoot a slightly smaller group, but the difference is very small.

Also worthy of mention is that those 40's have been laser beam death on coyotes. I guess the 40's dump all their energy into the coyote, because it snaps them to the ground in a blink. Amazing.

There's 40 grain data on Hodgdon's site, but the rifling twist used was 1 in 12. Suspect that may be more important.
"...Pennsylvania is seriously considering..." Any mention of allowing varmint calibres for deer?
Not sure which State's hunting regs are more daft. PA with its no semi's or the other one with the pistol calibre rifles only rule. Indiana? Just as daft as our counties with the .275/.270 or under by the cartridge name rule. Mind you, here in Ontario, we have to buy a licence to buy a licence as well.
