Variable magnification long eye relief scope.

Any one got any experience of these? I have a Nikko 2.5 fitted to my Mauser 98 and a Burris 2.75 on my utility scout. The club I recently joined shoot at 300 and 600 yards and beyond and I was wondering about trying a long eye relief with variable and therefore higher magnification. The one shoot I have done at these distances I used my 91/30 with a PU 3.5 scope.
I want more magnification, and am not going to change the 91/30. I seem to recall reading somewhere that LEER worked fine on a low fixed power, but there were problems when you go to variable or greater magnification.
Anyone tried this already?

I have had good luck with the Bushnell Trophy XLT 2-6x32 handgun scopes on my 91/30 and 98K. The scope has nice glass and solid construction for a sub $200 scope. I think Nikon makes a 2-8 LER scope that I might try if I can find a Ruger Scout for a reasonable price down the road.

not sure

I have read somewhere that Leupold will offer the Scout scope in a low powered variable, but I cannot quote a source. Seems like I saw a picture and followed up and learned the release is planned.

A bit more power in a Scout would address the lack of long range capability, as long as it does not add too much weight forward.
