Vaquero

I'm a 1911 guy but last week I bought a Ruger SBH .44mag and liked it so much that yesterday I bought a shinny new Ruger Vaquero that shoots .45acp and .45 long colt........gettin to like these "wheelers"

OMG, you have to try the bird's head grip guns, the .45 colt sheriff, or the .32 h&r single six.
Occasionally a .357 mag sheriff can be had, but I haven't seen one that was a bird head.
The bird head is just an absolute joy to shoot.
The short barreled .45 colt sheriff is my favorite wheelgun of all time.

Let us know how you like it please! I have my eye on the Ruger Birds Head Vaquero for a cowboy shooter. What a gorgeous revolver! Congratulations!! Might have to buy it before my new carry gun? LOL

yup. got me a Bisley Vaquero, and i'm very happy with it. nice finish, and trigger, plus the well contoured grip make it one of the nicest full size guns i've had.

The only problem with fixed sight rugers is that they tend to shoot to the left.
I don't mind filing a little off the front sight to get the altitude right, but I just can't understand why they can't get it to shoot close to POA for left/right.
I guess it varies by load, but it still irks me to no end.

I've heard that for righties it shoots left and for lefties it shoots right. Jim Taylor mentioned that on his sixgunner board some time ago. Try and find a lefty that you know is a good shooter and have him try it. Or a machine rest which is neither right nor left. If you try to turn the barrel to effect change you will change your gap and affect accuracy maybe.....Good luck. Of course old time gunsmiths will just hold a little to the right and it will land right where they want it.

Shot my new Vaquero, nice like it alot.....long colt has a bit more kick than the acp but both very manageable. I'm right handed and mine shoots p.o.a it's a very good shooter......sometimes if you pull the trigger with the second joint in your finger it will cause low/left. try shooting using the first pad of your finger.......

I've got to get another VAQUERO.........dam guns!!!!!!!

I got a stainless Vaquero in .357 back in the summer.
I've probably put close to 500 rounds through it so far.
That's a lot for gate-loaded single action!

I love mine.
With any ammo it shoots to point of aim if I shoot freehand or Weaver stance from 10-12 yds.
Rather it doesn't shoot to the right or left.
With 158gr. .38 loads it is at POA.
Lighter loads shoot lower.

I added a Wolff spring kit, and now rocking the hammer back and pulling the trigger are a sheer joy. :D

Oh, did I say that I like mine. ;)

......sometimes if you pull the trigger with the second joint in your finger it will cause low/left. try shooting using the first pad of your finger.......

Why would anyone pull the trigger with the second joint of their trigger finger?

I have a short-barrel "Sheriff's Model" .357 Vaquero. It is the most "fun gun" that I have.

Told the Fat Man in the red suit that I wanted the Birds Head in .45....we'll see what happens later this month...................;)

I bought two Vaquero's (what's the plural for Vaquero?) last year when I got infected with the SASS bug. Both in .45 Colt one a blue 4 5/8" and the other a shiney stainless 7.5". The long barreled gun shot right to point of aim. The shorter gun shot low left. Just took a very small amount of turning the barrel and filing the front sight to bring it dead on. The long barreled gun has since gone away in a trade and I don't shoot SASS anymore after a change in job schedule but I know where that "little" gun shoots now and forever.

"what's the plural for Vaquero?"

how about "los vaqueros" ???

For a while I thought my Vaquero shot several inches low, but then I discovered it was just me - when I concentrate on "press" instead of pull, it shoots POA. For some reason I tend to anticipate the shot more with the 45 Vaquero than with 357 double action (??)
