I recently aquired a Vang Comp 870 12 gauge. It has a Ghost ring front sight and houge stocks. I was wondering if anyone else has experince with these guns. I know it is a coustom conversion. I also know that it does things that a shotgun should not do! The first time to the range with it I took a shot at a silloute target set at 75 yards. I was using winchester 2 3/4" foster slugs. I aimed for the head because I could not remember drop at that distance. The first round went through the head at about chin level! I was amazed I din't know that was possible with a scatter gun! So does anyone else out there have experince with these guns? I would love to know what the limits are on it and what some of the most accurate loads are. Though with the performance so far I don't think I will be changing much!

Excellent work & I'm forever convinced well worth the money. :)

I was firing my three 870s a couple weeks back for a comparison project, the one VC showed marked superiority in buck patterning, and lower recoil with buck & slugs.

Talked to Hans on Thursday, he's expecting my PMAX barrel for his magic shortly.

There are those who don't feel his modifications make that much difference, I'm not among 'em. :)

The average smoothbore shotgun with decent sights- either rifle type or ghost rings- should be able to do that with slugs. It really isn't that remarkable, believe it or not. Experiment with different brands of slugs, and try some Brenneke KOs while you're at it.

I'm not taking anything away from Hans' work, of course.

Slug accuracy, as Lee says, is not the major issue with VC work, it's the shot patterning & the recoil reduction that sells it for me.

I have an 870P that is basically a VangComp gun, having had most of his specialty parts swapped in. There are different takes on a fighting 870, but there aren't any better takes on that. Hang onto that one.

I have not really tried the barrel I had him do with slugs but with buckshot my Vang Comp'd barrel produces patterns up to 50% smaller than it did before Hans worked his magic on it.

I picked up one of his barrels a few months back and put it on an 870 express I have. After running 50+ rounds through the shotgun I had hardly any feeling of abuse from the shotgun.

Multiple shot strings were a breeze to keep on target. before this barrel if I tried three-four round strings at center mass I would find myself off target much farther than with the VC barrel.

Recoil is much more manageable.

As soon as my Form 1 comes back my 870P is getting a 14" VC barrel.
