Value of unfired Ruger MkII?

What would you think the fair value of an unfired Ruger MkII would be? In the box, all paper work, stickers still on the magazines. Little blue QC sticker still on the frame. There is a price sticker on the outside of the box of $299.99.

I offered and the seller accepted $375. Good? Bad? I'm a dummy?

I prefer the MkII over the III and IV. I think the IV are going for around $500.

The only thing I have to go off of is I purchased a Ruger before there were any Marks in 1976 and paid something like $75.00 NIB at a Monkey Wards store.

I would say if you got $375 for yours, then you done good.

I love my MKII except when I have to put it back together. I think $375 is a good price. You will love it.

I think you did fine but a consideration would be which model Mark II was it?

Those numbers confuse me. 5.5 inch heavy barrel and adjustable rear sight is about all I know. I currently have the same in a 22/45. Like it, but prefer the steeper grip angle for serious competition.

I recently got a screaming good deal on a 22/45 Lite for $150 with only one mag load shot through it.... original owner hated the take down assy method and traded it away to my LGS who also could not sell it...asking $199 I was not really looking to buy a gun that day so I offer a what I though ridiculously low price..was stunned when my guy agreed

All this to say I bet a slightly lower offer at first...but in my mind cuz I love the way they reliably function and relative accuracy... I think you got a great deal

I love the newer take down of the MK 4 but $559 +/- for a fun gun when the same fun in a MkII or MK III for under $400 all day long is a no brainer

it's not like you have to endure the PITA field strip every trip to the range... I only open them up once a year for my annual marathon gun cleaning days....and almost always still ( after years of owning then thing) have to refer to the video to remind my self of the preferred method

I have a lot of 22s....love all of them but real fond of the Ruger MK series... mine seem to eat any ammo withing reason.... some get too greasy with the heavy lubed bullets and start to misbehave... so what, put it aside...load up the next one and keep making bang n smoke...

Still have a 1972 Ruger 22 I got at a Western auto for $59 with three bricks of CCI Mini Mags thrown in....I think back them a 100 rnd box of CCI was $1.29

5.5 inch heavy barrel and adjustable rear sight

Yeah, the numbers confuse me too, you gave me exactly the info I wanted.

That's (IMhO) a VERY nice combination. I really like adjustable sights (which are available on the bull-barrel and the long-barrel) and although the longer barrel does give you a longer sight radius the bull barrel is considered handier and has a real following.

Again, good purchase!

Target, I think. You did good. The Mark II is a find gun.

(I have a 6" barrel Mark II Target, that I picked upf or a song.)

Just a comment about re-assembly of the Mk pistols prior to the Mk IV. I have four Rugers, all with Volquartsen Accurizing Kits. I also did a bite of polishing on the internal sides of the frame. As a result the hammers move easily, so easy it's difficult to follow the manual's procedures; the hammers don't want to stay put. The main point of re-assembly is to keep the small pin on the end of the hammer from catching on the horizontal pin just below it. I found putting a piece of paper to keep the hammer pin from contacting or falling behind the horizontal pin allows me to keep the gun horizontal, which keeps the hammer in its correct position, allowing me to reassemble easily. Remove the paper just before closing the spring housing.

I pretty sure there's no such thing as an "unfired" Mark II. Ruger test-fires them all at the factory.

"Unfired" is a term sellers make up to try to add a premium to their gun.

My MKII with the 5.5" HB is fun to shoot; will make soda cans dance out to 50 yards and beyond with a little practice. Have had mine since they came out.

The accepted convention is factory test firing is part of the manufacturing process and is not counted when the gun is sold, the first time.

I still find it to be a potentially deceptive term that purely exists to try to justify higher asking prices in the minds of sellers.

Guns don't have odometers. A gun can be fired and cleaned and still easily marketed as "unfired". Likewise, if a gun is fired some and well-maintained and still in like-new condition (versus never fired by its owner), so what? It's still a used gun.

Personally, I feel the quality of a used gun should speak for itself, and hyperbole like "unfired" is unnecessary. As always, YMMV.

To me unfired simply means new in box. Good price on the Ruger OP, my brother has a 50th anniversary MK II, excellent gun.

Automobiles have odometers. You'll probably never find a "new" car on a dealer's lot or in the showroom that doesn't have three to seven miles on the odometer, just as a result of moving it through production and then through the shipping process. So it has been driven -- but it's still sold as a new car.

The same applies to test firing firearms. 44 AMP is correct -- we all know that most manufacturers test fire guns before they ship them, but the test firing is considered part of the manufacturing process and the guns are still accepted as unfired.

People will pay more than $375 for the upper to put on a Mark !!!. I suspect that you could sell for more than $500 in the right market.

Which of course is impossible to prove since guns have no odometers. Which goes back to my original point.

Back to the original topic that is a pretty good price for any of the MKII Target models. I bought one of the 5 1/2" bull barrel MKIIs 24 years ago. It is THE gun that I have fired the most rounds through! Not long ago I added a 22/45 with a stainless 5 1/2" barrel.
