Yes. Now you should press the little "Edit" button in the lower right of your post above and ask the question you want to about the rifle. Remember, it is wise to only include the about the first 4 digits of a serial number replacing the remaining digits with 'n'.

Tell us about your rifle; pics, model # and all but all but the last 2-3 numbers of the serial number would be helpful as well. I think we have a few knowledgeable thutty-thutty fans around here.

This is the right place. Your .30-30 is worth $22.37. But since I have a soft spot in my heart for these unpopular guns, I'll give you $50.00 for it.

You know what? SInce you're a nice guy I'll even pay for the shipping.:p

As a rule I pay too much for rifles I like. I don't have a Blue Book newer than 2008 but assuming it's a 336C in 95% condition it was worth $330, 90% was worth $195. I'm sure the Remington buy-out will cause some shifts in the value of pre-Remington rifles but I think it's too early to tell, I have a feeling a good used Marlin is worth more today than it has been in years. IIRC I paid $349 for a true 98% 336 in .35 Rem several months back but it is a rifle I've been looking for for some time. I've seen some 80-90% guns on the rack @ Cabelas for around $300 but I think they're overpriced.
Some pics would help, there's a Marlin owners' forum and some folks here are members. Hopefully one of them can be more helpful.

Well, it depends.

If you take it to your local gunshop and offer it to them, you might hear, "That old shot up piece o' worthless junk that no one wants? I'll give you $95 for it".

On the other hand, if you saw it on the wall at your local shop and wanted to buy it, "That classic lever action? Ya know, They don't make em like that anymore, better'n a Winchester & accurate as the day is long, only shot once by a little old lady on Sunday. We'll take $425. Worth every penny too." :D

So I'd say somewhere in between? ;)

Yep, a gun is worth what you can get for it. Sometimes that's retail, sometimes that's wholesale and sometimes it's cash over the tailgate of a pickup truck. It all depends on how fast you need the cash and how dedicated you are to finding the buyer who will give you top-dollar.

I know that doesn't answer your question, but it's the best answer I can give you. In some parts of the country it might be more, in other parts of the country it might be less. It simply depends on what the buyer is willing to pay.

However, if you want a numeric figure, the best place to look is one of the online auction houses like GunsAmerica or Gunbroker. You can see what number other folks are putting on the same model as the one you have.

To add, register with gunbroker so you can search completed auctions. That way you can see what people are actually paying for a certain gun :D
